Software Test: Panda Cloud Antivirus

Part summary

In the matter of virus protection, we did not rely on our own experiences and intuitions, but on the well-known and recognized AV-TEST Institute and AV-Comparatives research institute. Not surprisingly, the free Panda Security: Cloud Antivirus 2.3 is at the forefront, so we are convinced for our part.

We noticed something else

The question arises, what is the price of protection? The AV-Test Institute also measures the performance of antivirus software on a 6-point scale - this simply means how slow your computer is. Panda Security: Cloud Antivirus 2.3 scored 3,5 points, while on the other side it was again rated Advanced ++, although this still applies to version 2.1 of the software.

During the testing, we paid special attention to this area, and we came to the conclusion that due to the intense competition, only hairs could have decided. Both memory requirements and CPU time were at a pleasant level, with the former hovering around 7-10 MB on average and the latter jumping to 4 seconds when using a 30 giant (average) computer. We did not notice any outstanding moments in the hard disk load either, thanks to the cloud technology we could not encounter the load experienced during the upgrades. The latter may not be so clear, but we will make it so soon.

This is also a way to demonstrate how it works.

The cloud-based implementation of Panda was presented by Zsolt Sándor, the Hungarian director of Panda Security, as follows: “Simply put, the user connects to the server via the Internet, which scans the machine based on the virus signatures stored on it. Each Panda user is a sensor that provides data to the server about various viruses. With such an extensive sensor network, the time during which we can reach an epidemic in action and, if necessary, even prevent it is practically reduced to a fraction. ”

So far for that, we'll go into more details later.
