Creamy coffee at home - BlitzHome BH-CM1503 coffee machine test

In addition to making delicious coffee, it does not take up too much space.

Introductory

BlitzWolf, i.e. its household appliance division, BlitzHome, launched two coffee machines, the CMM2 and CMM5, on the market last year. I tried both, after good experiences with the former, cheaper version, I signed up for the latter semi-professional version, and I've been making my coffees on it ever since.

The CMM2 was an entry-level, but surprisingly pleasant structure capable of aromatic coffee. A complaint has been received, but the cases are approx. In 99 percent of cases, the silicone seal at the bottom of the water tank just moved, which caused the water to leak, correcting this eliminated the error.

I loved it so much, I didn't even pass it on, it stayed in the family and has been brewing delicious espresso coffee ever since.

I wrote them down because the subject of today's test, the CM1503, can essentially be considered the successor of the CMM2 based on my knowledge, while the external minimum places the device one category higher. As an exception, I did not buy it, the manufacturer sent it for testing because of the previous article, so I could try it essentially without any risk.

Packaging, accessories

The packaging is the usual BlitzWolf green-white (with love to fradists) cardboard, with effective impact protection inside. The cooker is well insulated from physical influences from the outside world.

We get the minimum of accessories in terms of quantity and quality. The coffee arm is quite a heavy piece, with a noticeable amount of substance in it. There are two filters, one for simla and one for double coffee, a tamper, a description, and nothing else.

External

The biggest strength of the CM1503 is undoubtedly its appearance. Externally, it does not lag behind in anything, e.g. from the De'Longhi EC 685, which is a bit more expensive. Let's say, if I've already mentioned this machine, I'll also add that the two machines are on par not only in terms of appearance, but also in terms of knowledge, but as I wrote, the BlitzHome is much cheaper.

The stainless steel cover on this coffee maker is no longer just a lie, it really is, and not in the form of rattling, thin plates. The only exceptions to this are the buttons on the roof and the dosing button of the steamer, but they do not appear to be made of plastic either.

The overall effect is first-class, from the water collection tray to the rear water tank, everything is impeccable and pleasing to the eye. So the design is fine, it won't spoil any kitchen.

The machine itself is much slimmer than its predecessor, the CMM2. While the form resembles a traditional (e.g. Szarvasi) coffee maker, the CM1503 is already a representative of the new generation. This has both advantages and disadvantages, but I will write about them later.

The arrangement is the usual, there is a tray for the cups in front, and a water collection tray with a small float underneath so that you can see when it is full of water. At the top, on the side facing the front, are the buttons for the controls, behind it is a cup warmer, and at the very back is the water tank.

Paper form

The BlitzHome CM1503 is a machine that does not need to be adjusted, we just put the ground coffee in the basket, put the lever in place and start the machine. The machine knows where the temperature of the water will be appropriate, it knows how much water needs to be pushed through the cake. If we could miss something, it would be a pressure gauge, but unfortunately for these machines in this price category (including the aforementioned De'Longhi) this is not included in the price.

What does fit is the all-steel interior, the fast-heating boiler, and the precise water and temperature measurement. The machine can create a pressure of up to 15 bar, which is a bit much for good coffee, but we still create the pressure with the grain size of the coffee grounds and a tamper.

By default, according to the factory setting, the amount of water that can be used for coffee for one person is 25-60 milliliters, for two people this changes to 70-110 milliliters. The amount of water can be adjusted with the buttons, and not only in such a way that the machine stops after a second press, but also in such a way that it remembers the set value.

The manufacturer has also built in some protection, so there is protection against overheating, automatic shutdown after 29 minutes, high temperature alarm, descaling reminder function.

Use and experience

Unpacking is easy, we remove the fixing tapes, wash the tank, boil the machine, so the usual stuff. You only have to pay attention to one thing, the valve at the bottom of the water tank is protected by a red rubber plug, which must be removed before use.

Of course, the use is not complicated, you can make coffee for one or two people, you can use the steamer to make milk foam, heat milk, and there is also a way to make hot water.

The finished coffee is flawless. It is true that, as in the case of the CMM2, a pressure booster basket helps to create the right crema, but to be honest, I have not had any acquaintances who would have objected to the quality of the CMM2's coffee prepared in a similar way.

This solution is simply good, and no one except real coffee experts can tell you what the basket is like, but I claim that even they don't always. There is the thick foam, there is the creamy, delicious coffee, with the steamer I produce milk foam just like the much more expensive CMM5.

What is important is to experiment with what kind of coffee and grain size to work with. I recommend that if you take coffee-making even a little bit seriously, you throw away the tamper that came with the machine and buy a usable one online. The basket size is "standard", so you get a tamper for this size, which you can use to feel how much you have compressed the cake, and it is even possible that the cake thickness will be the same everywhere.

So, I recommend you buy a normal tamper for the machine!

What I really like about these machines is the precise liquid measurement. In essence, it doesn't matter how much you compact the coffee cake, the amount of water flowing through will not change. In cheap machines, it is more difficult for water to pass through the denser cake, so the coffee will be very thick due to less water, while if you do not press the cake enough, much more water will flow through and the coffee will be very thin.

This cannot happen with the BlitzHome CM1503, the strength of your coffee will not be determined by the amount of water, but only by the amount of coffee used.

I promised to write about the advantages and disadvantages of the modern form. Well, the advantage and the disadvantage come from the same thing, the size of the machine.

Due to its small size, the CM1503 can also fit on the counter of small kitchens, it will not be in the way, there is no need to push or pack it. However, this slimness means that fewer cups can fit on the cup warmer, and that you will only be able to place two of a traditional cup under the arm, and only one of a smaller mug will fit there.

You have to decide whether this narrow design has more advantages or disadvantages for you, or whether it is completely equivalent.

Conclusion

The BlitzHome CM1503 turned out to be a great machine, much cheaper than its competitors with similar capabilities, but more famous. It is very beautiful, the assembly and the quality of the chosen materials are very good, the knowledge is also absolutely fine, so in this respect it is definitely worth the price.

However, the fact is that its predecessor, the BlitzHome CMM2, is still available, and the price is more favorable, despite the fact that the two machines are on par in terms of knowledge.

In other words, the bottom line is that the CM1503 costs more due to its modern exterior and full stainless steel cover. There will be those for whom the exclusive exterior is worth that much, but for those who are not, I recommend that you also look at the CMM2.
