Xiaomi smart balance for smart people

I tried and it turned out that I needed to lose weight, move more and drink a lot more water.

Introductory

Xiaomi has some products that have been dripping my saliva for a long time. These are not expensive things, but we still live on money, unfortunately our wallets are not bottomless, so I can only buy things I like pretty slowly. Such is the case with Xiaomi’s balance, which of course isn’t just a personal balance, she knows so much more!

Packing, outer

You’ll probably not be surprised to tell me that the scales came in a white box. At Xiaomin, this is the fashion, everything is packaged in this carton. Above the box we see the scales and on the side some Chinese punctuation.

When the box is opened, the accessories would fall out if they were, but there is nothing but the scales. I would say that the instructions for use are missing, but I know we would only get Chinese, and kissing the dead is worth nothing to beef. So our only task is to take the scale out of the box with the plastic bag around him and stand on it, and then jump off it in fright when we see the weight of our body, in pounds, of course, as if the number was not too large in pounds.

The poison, like other Xiaomi products, is an extremely showy piece. The whole is a large flat pebble with four metal sensors at the top and four rubber feet at the bottom. These legs are quite soft, so if you step on the scales you will definitely not slip out from under us and you will not cut backwards. It will require four AAA batteries to operate, these are not included with the product, so it’s good to have an unopened package at home by the time the balance arrives.

Before we jump into testing, let’s see what makes this scale so smart!

Principle of operation

The Xiaomi smart scale, so it is by no means just a tool for measuring body weight. The cornerstone of its operation is BIA technology, which tells us much more about how much we gained during the Christmas holidays.

But what is a BIA? The human body is made up of four main components - water, fat, protein and minerals. It is essential for a healthy life that these ingredients make up our body in the required proportions, none of which are much more or less than necessary. BIA is an acronym for bioelectrical impedance analysis. Nowadays, this method is the simplest way to measure the ratio and quantity of the four components mentioned above. The scale with BIA technology emits a slight electric current, which is then passed through our feet, the water in our body, from one foot to the other, and back to the scale through the other foot. Our body, and the water that makes up our body, has a typical resistance value, an impedance, that we know. If our body is mostly made up of muscle, then, the resistance will be lower, while if there is more fat, it will be higher. This is because muscle tissue can store more water than fat cells, so it can happen that two people of the same height, of the same weight, will have different body fat ratios. The BIA method can also be used to determine a person’s percentage of total body water.

However, the impedance and resistance of the body do not only depend on the amount of water stored in the cells. The result of the measurement is also influenced by the height of the body and the total size of our body. These values can have a drastic effect on the measurement, so Xiaomi’s balance sheet analyzes the results obtained with these in mind. For example, the trunk accounts for about 5 percent of total body impedance but provides about 50 percent of total body weight. Thus, a serious change in total body weight occasionally results in only a very minimal change, or even only 1-2 ohms, in the strain impedance value.

The Xiaomi smart scale can measure a total of 10 different values using BIA technology. These include, in addition to total body weight, the ratio of fat to muscle, as well as the assessment of bone mass and visceral fat mass. The scale can also be paired with your phone via Bluetooth, and we can use it to log changes in our body. What’s more, we can do this for not just one, but up to 16 different people, the phone app manages with so many profiles at once. With a balance and a phone program, even the whole family can track the data on a day-to-day or even month-to-month basis.

Operation, telephone application

The scales as I have described are smart. In smart devices, smartness is usually provided by our cell phone, and measurement and data collection is provided by the device we wear, wear, or use. This is also the case with smart scales.

As you read in the previous paragraph, the scales can measure a lot of things besides our weight. In order to get a proper picture of the state of our body and to be able to log changes, we need a program that can handle these values in a transparent way.

The phone app we need to download is called Mi Fit. This program will be what you need to find in the web store that matches your phone's operating system. Of course, you'll also find it for Android and iOS.

To install the program, you need to register, for me it was already there, because Xiaomi is my phone, my smartwatch and the lamp are also Xiaomi over my head, so it was convenient to create our Mi account. We can also link our health-preserving devices, such as this scale, or the smartwatch, smart bracelet, to this user account. You need a Bluetooth connection on your phone.

If you start the program and log in, you can also add the device, in this case the balance. Once connected, you can jump on it right away and then jump down in an instant. At least that’s what I did, because my scales so far (also digital but silly) show roughly six pounds less than Xiaomi’s miracle. Since I want to use this from now on I have to accept this.

You will see in the pictures that we get a rather complex measurement result. Unfortunately for me, this also shows that I have something to change. The only thing I can be happy about is that I am much better than average in terms of muscle mass, but since the structure has also found a lot of visceral fat, which is essentially dry out… so the overall picture is not promising. It will be time to change. Since I was the subject of the test, I put these pictures in the gallery, but if possible, don’t even sprint on the tracks anymore!

Summary

As it turned out from the previous paragraph, there will be things to improve on my lifestyle. I knew this well, I want to change it too, but it doesn’t hurt to have some motivation, like to see the change day by day. I thought Xiaomi’s smart balance was the right tool for that, and for now, I don’t seem to have to be disappointed with it.

It is important to know that this BMI index described above is not a miracle, it is used in many places, they use this kind of measurement. The thing is not cheap, depending on the location, they ask for up to 20-30 thousand forints for a measurement that this balance does. of course, I don’t think the expensive, hundreds of thousands of devices do give a more accurate picture of us. The big advantage of Xiaomi’s scales is that for the price of a more serious measurement, we are able to stand on and store our results several times a day, so we can embark on a path to a healthier life.

I ordered the balance from: Xiaomi Bluetooth 4.0 smart scale
