LG HB965TZ and HB45E: Christmas Blu-ray home cinema with LG

You don’t have to be a great expert to state it is LG The HB965TZ Bluray 5.1 home cinema system has been designed with particular attention to design. Today we live in the fashion of “slim” things, LG also likes to make thin things, be it a television, a monitor, or just - as we now see - a speaker set.

Of course, this only applies to the front and rear speakers, but they are really very slim, with a depth of only 19,5 mm. The center speaker can't be called a giant either, it's easy to place, it's only 83 mm deep. Of course, the subwoofer was not covered by the diet, here you need the right volume for the right sound. The exact size and weight of the speakers can be found in the specification table below.

What exactly is the LG HB965TZ? Such all-knowing devices are slowly already going beyond the scope of home theater systems, this unit is now virtually a consumer electronics hub, in addition to being an absolute high-end product. The soul of the system is a desktop bluray player, which is actually like a central controller. It has an amplifier, you can connect speakers, an iPod dock, a USB port, while it also has wired LAN connectivity and a built-in (!) WLAN unit that supports the N standard.

It’s hard to tell what’s left out of this unit, as a movie / music / picture from a bluray disc, DVD, CD, iPod, portable player, and USB drive (flash drive, HDD) can all be played and displayed, but if we don’t feel like it, we can stream on a wired or wireless network, even using DLNA. If you just want to record something, you also have the option to record to a USB drive, but if you want to browse online content, it’s not an obstacle, youtube, picasa albums and the weather are available in no time.

In addition to plenty of features, the HB965TZ is a huge weapon in the hands of an unparalleled rich output range. Once you have prepared the speakers out of the box, all you have to do is connect the colored cables to the player and then to the appropriate speaker. The connection is made with a clamping method, which is commendable, since if one of the cables is damaged, it may not be long enough (this can only happen in the case of a huge living room, the cables have not been saved), we can replace it with our own copy. For a bluray system, HDMI is a priority. HDMI output is mandatory, but the good news is that we also get two (!) Inputs.

In practice, this means that, for example, you can connect your computer to your HD TV via the LG HB965TZ by passing that signal on to the TV while the sound is already flowing to the speakers, which come to life immediately. So you can run your favorite games on a plasma or LCD TV, while the sound fills the room in 5.1, with a maximum of 1000 W, but if you want to put a movie on the screen in this way, that's not an obstacle either, as the machine it immediately recognizes the LG system as a secondary display, and the Windows background appears on the TV in a matter of seconds, ready to receive a game or player program.

Of course - although the simplest and perhaps best method - is not mandatory to use the HDMI input, it is possible to use other optical inputs, two of which can be found on the back of the device. Although the use of analog outputs and inputs is not recommended, a stereo analog input (RCA AUX in) is available for audio if required, and the image can be output from both composite and component outputs. The player also offers a built-in FM tuner by connecting the included antenna to the antenna input on the back.

On the back, we can be attentive to another tiny fan that does its thing almost silently during operation. By default, the front of the player obscures everything, with the LG and Bluray logo on the right, only the volume control is free, and on the top, on both sides, you can find the power button and the tray eject button. Folding down the front cover, we can feel the confusion of abundance again. To the left of the optical drive is a built-in USB and kisjack connector, and in the middle of the device you can fold out the iPod dock. The right half of the space is for the control buttons, display, and volume control.

After the LG HB965TZ, in terms of overall picture and specification, one cannot wish for much more. Not only does the system know everything, it is worthily lying under the plasma TV, in addition to their beautiful speakers, they will also be the decorations of our room or living room. For the kit, you’ll find everything in the huge box, including soles, tripod tubes, cables, a guide and a sophisticated, large-sized remote control. Assembly is simple, no more than a 15-minute operation if the speakers are placed on stands. Of course, they can also be mounted on a wall, but in this case we will be forced to drill.
