Home cinema. A word combination that is complete may actually have made sense in the last 10 years. Surely there are still many of our readers who remember the VHS era, when recorded content could only be viewed on tape, with the help of a VCR. Betyár was a data carrier, not even a fresh cassette represented too high a picture and sound quality, but then it deteriorated over time, the tape stretched, worn, and so on. Of course, we weren't very interested in these that year, that we could be happy with a fairy tale, maybe a whole series of Star Wars, which at that time consisted of only three parts.
The good old videotape
Back then, not only did it exist as a video library, but in my view, it was possible to make a living from it. I don’t know how many video stores there are today, but I’d be curious about the turnover of a store now and 10 years ago. Of course, when the price of a VCR was not as horror as ever, copying appeared, at first there were enough two videos, and it was possible to start copying. Of course, there was still a quality degradation after copying back then, so if we copied a movie to a new tape and always the "new" content over and over, we might not have seen the same on the fifth tape as we did on the first.
How many years ago we were still able to enjoy a video
Like all technologies, video cassette filming has evolved, with the advent of 4- and 6-head recorders, LP mode, which has significantly increased the capacity of a cassette in terms of recording time, of course the quality has further deteriorated, but I am also very pleased. I thus archived the entire season of Formula 1 in 2000. Later, the Hifi Stereo soundtrack was released, with which we already got real stereo sound, etc., it could be told for a long time, those older than me are even longer. The point is, the memories are beautified, but in those days, this kind of pastime could not be called home cinema, something new was needed, both in terms of image and sound.
The shift has arrived
The DVD has arrived that has changed everything. Although I couldn’t afford a home theater as a child at the time, in 2001, my uncle was still working in a different economic situation in Germany at the time, he was also a lover of technology, and still is, so as technology is at home. became available, he rushed to the store with a lot of waiting for a high-quality Pioneer desktop DVD player, which at that time tasted even 100 HUF. The player was accompanied by a Magnat subwoofer and a center speaker, the two fronts and two sequences were already available in the form of two more Pioneer and two Sony stationary speakers. Of course, one important thing was still missing, the home theater amplifier.

This area would also be worth a Mass, but the point is that this device was not a cheap thing at the time either, the Pioneer 5.1, DTS decoder model also tended towards 100 HUF. However, this equipment could already be called a home theater without modesty, but at that time, due to the prices, not many people could be given the opportunity to play DVDs. I remember the "needle-sharp" picture on the CRT TV, which the sound raised to a cinema level, the sophisticated system made an impact, the DTS soundtrack on the original DVD of the Gladiator came to life, the arrows rained everywhere in the living room, the explosions the glass and doors almost shook, at the right volume, of course. If the size of the 000cm 72: 4 Sony picture tube TV didn't provide a cinematic experience, its quality was all the more so, of course, this required a 3 sound system.
Pioneer has not been left out of the desktop DVD market either
The lesson from the above lines is that DVD was a huge leap in home cinema compared to the VHS era, maybe we can really talk about home cinema from now on. As always, technology has become cheaper, more and more people have been able to afford it. Not everyone was interested in surround sound, then buying a cheap desktop player was enough and we could already enjoy the nice picture quality, but then the price of the low-performance 5.1 sets also became more and more friendly.

Importantly, it wasn’t absolutely necessary to buy a new TV, a DVD movie on a non-Methuselah-age CRT was always nicely painted, except that there was a damn black stripe because of the 4: 3 versus 16: 9 aspect ratio.
