Searchable program information on Toshiba 2012 smart TVs

Toshiba Europe has announced that its 2012 smartphones will be launched with an innovative MediaGuide feature provided by the Rovi solution.

Unlike traditional electronic program magazines, the MediaGuide application offers many search and sorting options as well as more information. The app’s searchable database has detailed descriptions and images of actors, celebrities, and TV shows dating back to the 1960s.

A comprehensive program guide for a novel TV experience  

Users can simply launch the MediaGuide app by pressing the “GUIDE” button on the remote control or through the Toshiba Places interface on their Toshiba smartphone. In addition to listing shows, MediaGuide also provides a wealth of background information, such as what other movies the actors have played in, or whether those movies are scheduled to show in the next 8 days. The app also makes recommendations for reviews based on user preferences, keywords, and categories. An internet connection is required for the application to work.
