ASUS Eee PC 1004DN - luxury in a small way

Since this is Windows XP Edition, all we had to do was press the power button; after that we only had to wait 1 minute to really take possession of our Eee PC. The Atom processor isn't very fast - and unfortunately it's a single-core version - but it consumes at least little in return. Compared to desktops - or possibly laptops equipped with a Core 2 Duo - we still need to be a little more patient with the many pop-ups, but it’s just a matter of habit.

A little closer look at the "keyboard".

Of course, don't expect a full-fledged "keyboard", however, a keyboard with Hungarian inscriptions would not have hurt - since of course the allocation has a native setting by default. (Here we would like to share some fresh information with our readers: all of the official copies on sale will have keys with Hungarian inscriptions.) Compared to the size of the touchpad, it is easy to use and can replace our favorite rodent in the short term. The two buttons sometimes react a little clicky when activated, but this should be our biggest problem. We can't complain about the display either - although it's true, don't expect a viewing angle range that puts plasma TVs to shame - the 1024 × 600 resolution proved to be sufficient for basic tasks, and of course we had no problems with sharpness or readability.

One of the cornerstones of the Eee PC is power management, which is why we are not surprised by the dedicated button at the top left, which allows us to easily and quickly switch between profiles: Power Saving, High Performance, Super Performance. If the power is suddenly turned off and the battery continues to supply power, our test subject will automatically switch to Auto Power Saving mode, or if we plug the adapter back in, we will be rewarded with high performance (Auto High Performance) - two small bugs (both OSD) provides information.

In keeping with our good habit, we will again share most of our measurement results in a table with our Readers - or even two screenshots:

It seems that the Eee is not a powerhouse, but no one expects it. The 1004DN can be good for basic office work if you don’t want immediate, hyper-fast reactions. The relative slowness of the background storage can be felt, however, in this size category (1,8 ″) this can be said to be absolutely acceptable.
