Let's start with the smaller ones, because that's how it's fair!

Another Eee PC landed with us, which is now the second in a row. Based solely on its specifications, we would look like a completely average machine, but the strength of this test subject now lies in the design. The name "seashell" donated by the manufacturer is not accidental: the glossy, slippery-plastic surface ("pearlescent") and rounded corners are all reminiscent of a small mollusc. It’s enough to run your fingers along this mirror-smooth white surface to feel the exceptionalness of the cover. Speaking of colors, it’s worth noting that there will be five more to choose from: black, veiled pink, deep red, royal blue, and deep blue.

The one came to us

When we open our shells, the turbidity is immediately revealed: of course, the coffee on the display got a black color. The second, which immediately appears, is the set of stickers and logos from which we can peel the gist: Intel Atom - N280 - rumbles inside, the knowledge of which is exploited with the help of a pre-installed Windows XP Home. However, this is nothing, we get countless additional references to the hardware: Draft N Wi-Fi, multifunction touchpad, SRS virtual surround sound, crystal clear microphone, LED backlit LCD, ultraportability - only 2,5 inches thick and 1,1 kg a machine - up to 6 hours of battery life and hybrid "storage" - 160 GB 2,5 "HDD and 10 GB of Internet storage. Of course, we also get a software package (Eee Docking Software Suite) for this Eee, which allows you to access multimedia content on the World Wide Web (Eee Arena), easily share and sync your data (Eee Sharing), learn about your machine’s audio and video capabilities, and customize and update your machine (Eee Tools).

Of course, we also carry out specific tests. Keep in mind that the N280 Atom processor has already been tested with us in the 1004DN - albeit in the company of a slightly better chipset - so it will be interesting to compare the results. Of course, we didn't leave the battery without skinning either, we'll report on that on the last page.

The hidden VGA connector is on the bottom of the Eee PC

Anyone who has used any Eee PC will be familiar with our current test subject. The first time you turn on the power, you need to provide the installer with some information, after which you will have the Microsoft operating system in a minute or two. The 10 "display with a maximum resolution of 1024 × 600 greets us back as an old biker, thanks to the LED backlight you won't have any problems watching movies on the go. The keyboard has been slightly redesigned by the designers, which is mostly in the lower right corner impact - their principle of making the keyboard as comfortable to use as possible has not changed:

The touchpad with two scrollbands fuses completely with the inner surface, but it has a rough cover, which means we have to get used to it a bit, in return, our sweaty fingers cause less galibis.

The special touchpad

Another innovation over similar machines to date is that the connectors must be "mined" behind the fold-down or fold-out "protective sheath", the existence of which has been met with fundamentally erupting enthusiasm, but at least one USB connector could have remained free for easier, faster use.

Of course, the 1008HA also has different power management modes: Power Saving, High Performance, Super Performance. If the power is suddenly turned off and the battery continues to supply power, our test subject will automatically switch to Auto Power Saving mode, or if we plug the adapter back in, we will be rewarded with high performance (Auto High Performance) - two small increments (both OSD) provides information.
