FragFX v.2 PS3 controller = Bang in the head!

I packed the controller just ten minutes ago, so I’m still a little under the influence of the experience. For this reason, I have to fight hard not to make writing too inspiring, I also quickly put on the objective glasses with the critical lens.

Let's see then!

Installation isn’t hard, but it’s a USB device plus not surprising for the PS3. You don't have to set anything, at most make sure that if you turn on the console with another controller, set FragFX as the primary controller, otherwise you can only navigate it in the menu, it won't work during the game. This is the case with, say, all controllers, so it comes as no surprise.

As you can see in the pictures, the control is done with two separate units. That wouldn't be a problem, all the more so as the left-hand unit is strongly one-handed, so left-handers won't really be able to use it, since they'll want to aim with their right hand too, and that's not exactly where the mouse will be.

Since it is primarily recommended for COD, I also tried it. I’m a better guarantor, so I didn’t have a problem using it. The upper mini-joystick controls the movement, the front buttons are the same as the buttons on a standard PS3 controller. You can use binoculars, knives and grenades in the game with these. On the unit we find another scroll wheel at the thumb, so we can control the sensitivity of the movement. It is a very useful solution, as faster movement came in handy in melee combat and slower movement in telescope hunting. On this page we also find the four-way button, which fell a little less handy. With this button we can select the grenade launcher, install a mine, turn on the night vision, and what else the game has to offer for each mission.

On the right we find the mouse. This is connected to the left unit by a cable that is not too long, but just long enough, from which the cord then exits to the PS3. The mouse got an optical sensor, of course the bullet solution would have been ugly in 2009. On the side we find the four PS buttons and with the top buttons we shoot. In the game, the PS buttons were also given a function to pick up weapons, items, and more. topics. The buttons are at your thumb and just in hand.

Now let's see the negatives. The mini-joystick on the left controller is a bit difficult to press down, and in a tilted position you almost don’t want to click at all. This is used for running in the COD, so it’s confusing enough to have to stop, press the button, and then start again, now running in the right direction. The button may come through later and it will be easier to press, but unfortunately I didn’t have time to wait for that. The stems of the four-way button are too thin and don’t fall too close to your hands. Of course, you can get used to this as well, after a while I already found the right direction during the game, and for example, I was able to turn on the night vision widget in time.

The mouse is small. It's very small for me. I can best compare its size to a piece designed for a notebook. It’s not unbearable, but I’d rather have my wrist held a little by the rodent because it makes my hands less tired. The buttons on the side and top are a bit wobbly, but not confusing. We don’t even notice it in the heat of the game. I’m thinking hard if there’s anything else I didn’t like, but I don’t think so, so now I can be a little enthusiastic.

At first I thought the cord that would connect to the PS3 would be short, but it turned out it wasn’t. Our living room isn’t a ballroom, nor is it a condominium room, so I think the length of the cables will be enough for most people who don’t buy a USB extension cable.

I thought a lot before trying to place the mouse pad so I could play well. We have a coffee table, but it’s low, plus I have to lean forward if I want to play while sitting on the couch. Because of this, I then placed the mouse pad on the couch next to me. Luckily, the cable between the left unit and the mouse allowed this too, with the left controller holding my hand loosely in my lap. The mouse pad is just the right size anyway and, importantly, it can be used on a rigid, ie soft surface, not just on a desktop.

After starting the game, control was very unusual at first. I couldn't find the buttons. What immediately went on was the targeting. The mouse could be aimed just as well as if I were playing on a PC. It took about an hour for the buttons to lock. After that, I found everything automatically, I didn’t have to think about what I could control where.

The game was sensational, you could say it gained new dimensions through control. It’s hard to explain this to anyone who has only played on a PC so far, but I’ll try. On the one hand, the console is given, which comes with a large TV with a lot of speaker amplifiers, meaning the sight and sound are pounding to the ground for a PC player. Good for myself, when the PS3 experience was still fresh, I couldn’t even imagine sitting down in front of the computer’s “small” screen again anytime.

But there was the problem of governance. Although I got used to the controller, it didn't even provide the gaming experience that a PC with a mouse. Movement is cumbersome and slow, but most of all, targeting. I’m not saying it’s useless, but even after a year and a half I say that if FPS, then a PC + mouse pair is the winner. Or I've said that until now!

Using FragFX, I felt the old PC feeling again, but to that was added the picture and sound experience mentioned above, so the thing came together. Everything was missing after the PC, and everything the PS3 could provide compared to the PC. Aside from the small flaws in the controller - and I was definitely able to ignore it while playing - I say it’s perfect. Give momentum to the term, PERFECT!
