Epic Gear Jellyfish and Hybrid Pad if you don't take care of it!

We have already dealt with mice for gamers in several articles on our site. We always ask what a good gamer mouse should look like. Nor do we fail to ask this question now, and we also need to consider an aspect that we are not used to anyway, and that is the long-unanswered question of which sensor is better for players, the traditional optical or the laser.

At first, of course, most people cut it to the clear laser, but that may not be true. The two technologies operate on essentially the same principle. Simply put, imagine that there is a camera at the bottom of the mouse that takes lots and lots of pictures in a row. The captured images are processed by an automaton, which calculates the direction and speed of the movement of the mouse from the difference between the images, i.e. the two-dimensional movement itself, which we perform with the mouse.
This is how the traditional optical and laser sensors work, but there is a difference, and that is the light that illuminates the surface under the optical sensor. The LED and laser light used in traditional solutions are different. It illuminates the surface in a different way, it diffuses in a different way, it is beaten back differently by the landscape below.

Conventional LED lighting is nowhere near as sharp as its laser counterpart. For LED mice, it is appropriate to use some kind of mouse pad, but at least to move it on a well-structured surface, because if we do not do this, the movement of the mouse pointer will be intermittent. The laser, on the other hand, gives a sharp image, so much smaller surface irregularities become visible to the optics. Thus, it is possible that laser mice can be used on glossy surfaces, some of them even on glass or mirrors.
You rightly ask the question, if that’s the case, then why isn’t the laser solution clearly better. I’ve actually already described the answer, at least in part. One reason is that on some surfaces, such as mouse pads designed for gamers, where the surface is sufficiently varied, the optical solution may allow for more balanced, smoother, but mostly finer movement, at least in any case if a lower DPI value is used. At high DPI, motion is accelerated, but you may need a sharper image provided by laser technology to keep the mouse pointer moving smoothly.

So the answer is open. It depends on the player and the game which solution is preferred, but it is certain that those who like to use both solutions due to the different games, their requirements for the mouse are high enough, can safely buy two mice. At least so far, but now here’s the Epic Gear Jellyfish and its Epic Gear Hybrid Pad, which changes everything.
