BlitzWolf BW-V6 promises high brightness and FHD NETFLIX experience.

Introductory

An unpleasant interlude occurred to me in connection with the projector. A member of our Facebook group claimed that I cheated him by not including in my test that a Chinese projector does not support Widevine DRM L1 certification because it is now standard in 2023. On the other hand, I claim, that is, I claimed, that unfortunately it is not at all, in fact, the manufacturers highlight the fact that we get Widevine DRM L1 support, because this is considered special.

Why did I think of this? Because one of the features of the BlitzWolf BW-V6 projector is Widevine DRM L1, which the manufacturer highlights in capital letters. In other words, this projector is one of the few cheap Chinese projectors that promise that we will be able to watch NETFLIX in high definition.

Of course, there is also a good number of promises, and this test will reveal whether they will provide enough ammunition for us to pay the surprisingly low price of HUF 57!

Accessories and exterior

Just a few words about the accessories, because there aren't many. Remote control, HDMI cable, AV cable, description and power cable. That's all we get with the machine. This is a completely standard package, the only positive thing I think is that the content of the package is not HDMI or AV, but HDMI and AV, that is, they did not choose, they gave both.

The remote control, on the other hand, is a showy piece, it's a shame that it doesn't come with Bluetooth for the connection, we get "only" infrared. It seems like a really high-quality piece, the buttons feel good, the pressure point is good, there are also four dedicated buttons in a row for NEFLIX, YouTube, Prime Video and the web browser.

So far so good!

Based on the promotional images, the projector is medium in size and in very good shape. It is like a closed book with dark pages and a light cover. Well, the pictures show the device to be a little too beautiful, I say this along with the fact that it is not ugly at all. It's just not as interesting as we'd expect.

The plastics used are very pleasant to hold, but the cover is a bit bumpy, so it is not very thick. Let's say as long as you don't want to throw it, it doesn't really matter. It is not so thin that it dents, e.g. if you catch it.

There is only the lens on the front, with a rather silly-looking lens cap on it. Of course, I can also say that it's okay, it's not very nice, but at least it's there, because many machines miss the penny stuff. In the right corner of the face, we find one of the infrared receivers.

Turning the machine further, there is a grid where the hot air comes out, next to it in a row are the connectors, such as headphones, AV, USB1 and USB2 and HDMI. at the next corner is another infrared sensor. On the back we find a speaker and a grill for the air, which goes in here. On the fourth side is the power connector and a removable grid, with a filter that can be cleaned underneath, and here too the cooling air enters the machine.

There are 8 buttons on the cover, with which essentially all functions are available, they click perceptibly and with a sufficient sound, you cannot press them sideways. Toward the front panel are rings for adjusting keystone and focus.

At the bottom of the machine, in the middle of the front, is a standard threaded connector, you can screw a leg here, but if your tripod holder is wide enough, you can also put it on a tripod. It can also be attached to the ceiling, because there are four standard threads under the rubber soles, so you can also attach it upside down.

Overall, the exterior is above average. The colors and plastics are good. The shape is also interesting, the assembly is also exemplary, so for now I feel the quality is above the category. The remote control also contributes to this, which is not an unbroken piece.

Let's see the paper form, that is, the specification!

Paper form

Well, the V6 is a much better machine than the average, cheap projector in many respects. I have already mentioned the Widevine DRM L1 support several times, but there are also strong positives (in addition to the relatively low price).

The brightness of the machine (light current) is 450 ANSI. This amount of luminous flux starts somewhere at HUF 100 machines, so if we get this for less than HUF 60, it is incredible performance. The resolution is native FHD, i.e. 1920 x 1080 pixels. There is 4K support, but more importantly, there is HDR 10, which, with 450 ANSI brightness, can already result in some improvement in terms of colors.

The hardware is relatively strong, the quad-core MediaTek processor with the Mali G31 dual-core GPU is capable of quite tolerable performance. 1 GB of memory and 8 GB of storage space are sufficient, Linux on the machine runs smoothly.

If it's software, I honestly have no idea what exactly is running on the projector. Everywhere I see Widevine DRM L1 Certified Linux OS, so some Linux based stuff, but Android is also Linux based, so dog knows. It is certain that you will not be able to install APK files, and not only from the Play Store or from a pen drive.

BlitzWolf BW-V6 projector test - the target group will love it! 10

Unfortunately, the Android Play Store is not available on it, only an alternative app store, which however has very few programs, approx. 200. I will come back to this!

The machine has two-channel WiFi, the interesting thing is not only that it can connect to 2,4 GHz networks as well as 5 GHz networks (this is not very interesting anymore), but also that, according to the manufacturer, you can connect to two WiFi networks simultaneously, which, by definition, will mean higher bandwidth in the direction of the home network.

Of course, there is Bluetooth, even 5.0. We also get Dolby Audio support. The text in the promo pictures that says: 5W*1 stereo sound is funny. That is, we have a 5-watt speaker that produces stereo sound. Thanks!

Above, I already wrote about the focus, which can be adjusted manually, and the keystone correction, which is also manual, so my more educated readers can already guess that the correction can only be adjusted in the vertical direction.

That's about it, the experience can come!

Use and experience

After turning it on, we have to run through a simple wizard, I like that, the basic settings are there. Then comes fine-tuning.

BlitzWolf BW-V6 projector test - the target group will love it! 13

The interface of the software is transparent, it can also speak Hungarian, so far it's great. We have a very good settings panel, where we can adjust the picture and the sound to our liking. Contrast, color temperature, saturation and brightness can be adjusted on the image, of course, but there are also predefined settings, sports, cinema and similar.

This is also true for the sound, which means that there are also selectable settings. The first pleasant surprise came here, because the different sound images are really different, and the right timbre, depth, etc. are found quite well, e.g. when watching a movie. the setting called cinema worked best. Anyway, the sound can be enjoyed in an interesting way, despite the fact that it comes from a simple 5-watt speaker. Not a home theater, but enjoyable.

We're going to explore the software a bit more, because this is the point that makes it appear in the title: the target group will love it.

The fact is that the aforementioned app store is extremely poor. More precisely, what I was looking for was not included, and these were primarily programs from various streaming providers. In other words, there is only what is pre-installed. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube and Plex.

BlitzWolf BW-V6 projector test - the target group will love it! 15

The target group will be those who don't use more than that, I don't know a single person who only subscribes to Netflix. Because of my work, it's almost mandatory for me to subscribe to everything, otherwise I wouldn't be able to use the various tools (at least that's what I do at home, why is there a subscription for everything 😉 ). Amazon Prime is also getting better and better, I already had a subscription when there was almost no Hungarian content, not even at the level of subtitles.

BlitzWolf BW-V6 projector test - the target group will love it! 16

So, if you are content with Netflix and Amazon, or maybe YouTube is still your field, then this will be your projector, because:

  1. The brightness is frank. I don't think it's 450 ANSI, according to independent online measurements, it's not that much either, but when you take it out of the box, it's around 400. If you start to adjust it, reduce the contrast, adjust the brightness, etc., adjust it to get the right colors, then you only have 300-350 ANSI, but that's still good, because if you play it on a machine that already knows 200 ANSI, it's good , if you end up with 120-130 ANSI. 350 ANSI is already enough to film half-darkened, and with normal darkening you get bright colors, and quite a lot of detail remains even in dark scenes.
  2. The sound is also good. As I indicated above, the built-in sound is quite frankly, I also recommend that you get a Bluetooth speaker, it will be the real deal. The fan noise is average, which in this case does not mean quiet. Unfortunately, these small projectors with high brightness for their size need air for cooling, especially in summer. If a lot of air passes through small spaces, it will make noise. There's nothing you can do about it. There are unacceptably poorly designed machines that roar like a tornado, only Dorothy and Toto don't fly across the room, and there are better designed ones that just roar. The BlitzWolf BW-V6 belongs to the latter group.

  3. Widevine DRM L1 support is an ultra good thing. If you've seen the difference on an FHD projector with or without L1 support, then you know what to vote for. With the right brightness, you can watch detailed, colorful and fragrant content. So, if you don't mind that there is currently no selection on the projector besides Prime and Netflix, then you will love this machine.
  4. YouTube HDR content is also supported, up to 60 Hz image refresh is possible. You can really see the difference compared to traditional playback without HDR.
  5. The infrared sensors are very well placed. This means that even though the remote control is not Bluetooth, the remote control signal is received from (almost) every direction and every angle. Anyway, the remote control is awesome!
  6. There is a browser on the machine! I think this won't move many people, and I rarely use it either, but once in a while I really need it, and most projectors don't have it. If you don't have it, you can say you have to install it, but for many, especially those running the Android TV system, there is simply nothing that I've managed to like. The BW-V6 has a relationship, a normal, full-fledged browser!
  7. Mirroring the phone's screen via Miracast is seamless, so you can also play games by projecting the image from the phone.
  8. I don't have a console, but based on the tests available online, consoles can also be connected via HDMI, there is only a minimal delay, so even if you are not at a professional level, you can play casually projected on the projector.

Now let's talk a little about the remaining oddities. About those, e.g. that there is a focus adjustment in the settings in the menu, while the focus is manual on the projector. Needless to say, it doesn't even respond to the software setting.

What I didn't like specifically, however, was that the angle of the trapezoidal adjustment was quite small. The image can be enjoyed almost only when projected from the center. This is compounded by the fact that the focus also provides a sharp image in an extremely narrow range. If you are not projecting from the exact center, you have to decide whether the image should be sharp at the bottom, top or center.

BlitzWolf BW-V6 projector test - the target group will love it! 18

This is mostly a problem arising from the LCD technology, but it is not usually so noticeable at such a small angle adjustment. I'm not saying that the picture is unenjoyable. The texts, if e.g. I use it for presentations, they remain legible in all areas of the image.

Fortunately, the difference in brightness between the edges and the center is not crazy either, but the corners are noticeably darker. Let's say this is most noticeable during testing, with a single-colored background, during movies the colors, the picture and the action take the eye away so much that the thing was not noticed.

BlitzWolf BW-V6 projector test - the target group will love it! 19

On the other hand, what is obvious or rather obvious is that, although the built-in media player is flawless, it does not support AC3 audio. This means that if you want to play a movie from a pen drive, you have to pay attention to how the sound is encoded, because in the wrong case you can play the piano as a musical accompaniment during silent movies.

BlitzWolf BW-V6 projector test - the target group will love it! 20

Well, we've reached the end of the unpleasant part, there's nothing else. Or I didn't find it. I think this amount is digestible and acceptable, especially when I think about the price of the machine.

Summary

It is no coincidence that the term target group is in the title of the article. The reason is simple, due to the "deficiency" of the software, I can recommend the machine to those who live their streaming lives in the Netflix-Prime-YouTube triangle, but for them it is GREAT! I can't find anything better in this price category, the BlitzWolf BW-V6 is the cheapest Linux-powered, Netflix-certified projector on the market!

The machine performs above its category in terms of brightness, image quality and sound, if not by miles, certainly enough to decide the question if you have to choose. Unfortunately, the lack of Disney+, HBO Max and SkyShowTime really hurts me, but what I miss the most is KODI. The latter, I know well, is not an issue for many.

So, all in all, if you are in the target group and are looking for a projector, I can't find anything better for this HUF 57 at the moment. I think you won't regret the purchase!
