Samsung's new HD players

It would have been hard to imagine one of the avid members of Blu-ray last year moving to the camp of HD DVDs. But has this happened now?

Samsung has announced three new handsets on the HD line that are likely to arrive across Europe without a hitch. We have read in several places that manufacturers are being forced to reduce the prices of their desktop players due to intensified market competition (no and lower than expected demand due to high prices), and this fate could not have been avoided by the Far Eastern mammoth company either, we know the BD-P1000 for "already" 150 forints (the official starting price was about double at first).

Let’s start with perhaps the most interesting player, the BD-UP5000. The curiosity of the player is the letter "U", which in this case means universal, ie it can also cope with the rival HD DVD format. This in itself sounds very promising, as we shouldn’t consider two devices for our HD movies, and cost-effectiveness may come to mind. But only until the moment we look at the expected price, which is 1049 USD (approximately 189 000 HUF).

The other two newcomers will only support CDs and DVDs in addition to Blu-ray. The BD-P2400 will include HQV's acclaimed high-quality video circuits, as will the BD-UP5000, while the BD-P1400 will not, and the latter will only have 5.1 analog audio output.

What all three widgets have in common is the playback of BR discs in 24p and 60p (European version: 50p) mode via HDMI (v1.3a), support for next-generation audio formats (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD), and each of those just announced will also be equipped with a LAN port.

The BD-P1400 is expected to cost $ 549 (approximately $ 99), while the BD-P000 is expected to cost $ 2400 (approximately $ 649), and it is likely that all three new products will be available in Europe from the fall.
