Convenient, light and cheap, but the sound could be a little better.

Introductory

Spring is approaching, for which I am cutting with a new and serious determination, I have to give up “a few” pounds. You could say it’s because of Christmas devouring, but honestly, I’d rather get a little tired. Because of this, I decided to start running. Again. I like to run, I like to run alone. It turns it off and relaxes, and I don’t accidentally think about work in the meantime, so it moves me, it also relaxes my brain, and I even lose weight.

It’s going to be perfect, but something wasn’t missing from it as the cord of my headset sways annoyingly while running and as it jerky the phone in my pocket when misplaced. At the end of last year, I already got the Xiaomi Sporty Smartwatch - click here to read our test about it - which has enough storage space to take my favorite music with me to run, plus it has a Bluetooth connection. It was clear that all I needed was a Bluetooth headset and I could leave the phone at home. The trip I have taken and all the important data will be recorded by the GPS watch, the strap of the Bluetooth ear will not be annoying, I will take another step towards comfortable sports. It was obvious that I would choose a Xiaomi earphone in addition to my existing Xiaomi watch and phone, it became the Xiaomi Wireless Sport Earbuds mentioned in this title, which I am presenting to you now.

Packaging and exterior

He sends it from the heart, from the heart, with pleasure, as the eternal lyrics of Ivan Szenes say. That came to mind when I saw the earphones in Xiaomi’s usual white box. They probably didn’t accidentally arrange the stems in a heart shape, in any case they warmed my heart a little with this kindness before unpacking, as if I hadn’t even bought their product, but had received it as a gift. In any case, this is the only reason why we will have a cute gift for our sweetheart, our parents or our child.

At the back of the box we find the main information about the tab, needless to say in Chinese. But don't worry, there will be instructions for use inside as well. It’s true in Chinese as well, but there are some nice explanatory illustrations in it that we didn’t write anything about because of the Chinese text written next to them. At Xiaomin, we may have become accustomed to such attentions, but because their products are of exceptionally good quality and the goods are made relatively low, we do not get a high-profile description. There will also be someone who will try, describe what needs to be out, and we will be happy to use it.

In the box, in addition to the earpiece and user manual, you will also find a USB charging cable and a bag with 4 different sized ear pads, and the fifth size is up on the earpiece by default.

The headset itself consists of three parts. From the two rather large ears that fit the electronics, and the cord that connects them, more specifically the wire, and the latter from a tiny little something that has a button and a microphone on it. From this it can be guessed that the earpiece is also a headset, which of course we only see the benefit of when paired with a smartphone or phone capable of making phone calls.

The relevant data for the ear case is the weight, which for the whole device is now 19 grams, the connecting cord, which is 22 centimeters, and the hook with which we can hang it behind the ear, which is 8 centimeters.

To control the earpiece, the buttons are located on the right side, there is also a USB connector for charging, which is closed by a well-fitting rubber cover from the outside world. This is also a must, as otherwise the entire earphone has received IPX4 protection against splashing water. That is, don’t take it with you to swim, but you won’t be scared of a little sweat or rain. As you may have read, the microphone got into a tiny, barely two-centimeter small part on the cable along with a tiny button.

 Use and experience

We’ve introduced a Bluetooth headset in the past, so it didn’t come as a surprise that the control of this earpiece is essentially the same as that. We get three buttons for control. The microphone has an on / off switch, and you can mute the sound by briefly pressing or answering incoming calls. The other two buttons are located on the right unit with - and +. These allow you to adjust the volume or move the numbers forward or backward by pressing and holding them. On an incoming call, a Chinese lady dictates what number our call came from, of course this in Chinese as well. The feature can't be turned off, I can't know about an English language firmware, so we need to be able to live with this thing.

It’s easy to use, which is important, but more important is how comfortable the stuff is. Well, it was surprising, but I had to replace the factory-fitted ear cushion with one smaller one, so the middle size was good. This came as a surprise only because, in my experience, these Chinese gadgets come with smaller pillows by default. Once we’re here, changing the pillow isn’t hard, but I’ll give you two pieces of advice. One is that removing the above is a little harder than expected, you need to pull better, but if you don’t rough it won’t tear. The other is that when attaching the replacement cushion, the cushion must be turned over and snapped into place, then the rim is turned back. Otherwise you will not be able to press the rubber onto the seed tube.

When in use, the Xiaomi Wireless Sport Earbuds proved to be particularly comfortable. It’s extremely light, and the hook behind the ear still looks hard when applied, but once in place, it’s no longer tight at all, just holding the ear firmly in place. Fortunately, the replaceable ear cushion also helps us personalize it. I’m still on my head while writing the article, even after about five minutes I forget about it, it’s so convenient.

The headset has a 100 mAh battery. According to the factory description, this should work for seven hours without charging. For me, at work at the table, at a slightly higher volume than average, it meant a little over 6 hours. Since I am not preparing to run a marathon or I do not want to avoid Lake Balaton, I consider this operating time to be good.

A few words about the sound quality as well, after all, it’s a headset. Well, I have to admit, it could be better. Not terrible, maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten used to the quality of the Xiaomi Pro HD In-ear Hybrid Earphones lately. Based on the sound image, the Xiaomi Wireless Sport Earbuds look like a normal single-driver, diaphragm solution. The overall sound image is well put together, there are no separate overtones or bass, but the reason for this is also that there are relatively few of them. The top range is almost none, the very jingling sounds are lost a bit. The depth is a degree better than this, but this is not surprising due to the membrane design. What’s really powerful is perhaps overly the middle range. Let's sum it up!

Verdict

As you can read in the introduction, I also ordered this earpiece because I want to use it, so it didn’t come specifically because of the article. I had expectations about him that were partially met. It will be excellent for sports, light and comfortable, the volume is also plenty okay. The operation is simple, and if connected to a phone, we can make phone calls comfortably while running. Which is clear, though, that I’m not going to use this at home to listen to music. Unfortunately, the sound quality is nowhere near the quality of the Xiaomi Pro HD In-ear Hybrid Earphones. The only thing I can defend is the honor of the uniform, and that is that I won’t worry about whether every little detail sounded nice while running, it will be much more important to exclude the outside world and the music will give the right pace to run.

The question is whether he understood the price. Well, at the time of writing, there is also a coupon that we can buy for $ 29. This means roughly HUF 7500 in HUF, which is a really friendly price for it. So, the price is quite excellent in terms of price-performance, but if you’re an audiophile, look for a more expensive piece for yourself!

Evaluation

As you can see there are many more positives, but we also found two points on the negative side. If you can live with these, you can buy a really good little sporty earpiece at a really friendly price.
