Instead of an introduction

Haylou, who belongs to Xiaomi Youpin, is known for her watches and earphones, so it’s not even worth wasting a lot of words on. Let’s take a closer look at the dry specs, then get acquainted with one of the manufacturer’s best earbuds, the T16!

Packaging and accessories, external

Showy box, kind of Xiaomis, just not the color, because Hayley is more of a velvety black cool.

Half of them are the pieces that plug into the two ears, and underneath the charger / docking box. Even a shelf down we find a description, a Type-C charging cable, and a stack of silicone pads, all sorts of sizes, so we can comfortably use the stuff in all sorts of ears.

The earplugs and the charging / storage box are made of the same plastic. This is not a glossy, but a matte, slightly velvety surface that collects less fingerprints on the one hand and is less slippery on the other than it is glossy.

From the Type C charging cable, I think it's clear to everyone that we finally don't have to suffer with the older Micro USB channel here either, we prefer the Type-C. Foam on the cake so that we can charge not only via cable but also with a wireless charger. At least the docking box. So if you have a wireless charger, just put it on and it will absorb itself!

Once you've unpacked the gadget, don't throw it aside, as it includes a download link for the phone app (QR code) that you'll need!

At first glance, everything is OK, the design, the workmanship, the quality of the materials, so everything. This earpiece no longer belongs to the cheaper Redmi series, I hope it will sound better than theirs!

The headset measures 24 x 21 millimeters and weighs 5,3 grams. The design is ergonomic at first glance, of course the test of the pudding will still be eating, so everything will turn out when I put it in my ear.

It’s also important that the earplugs have IPX5 water protection, and that’s IPX5, which will come in very handy if we run in the rain, for example.

Use

It’s an ear, we’re going to listen to music on it, so it’s not complicated. No physical button is found, you can control the tab, start music, stop, change the volume, etc. by tapping the tab.

Here comes the Haylou app, which we can install on our phone. Through the program we can change the touch functions, ie if you do not like the factory setting, you can customize it.

The Haylou T16 uses a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection to connect. This is also good in terms of energy consumption and latency. The old 4.x Bluetooth ate a lot more and e.g. it wasn't too good for games or movies either, because the sound slipped a bit compared to the picture. So you shouldn't give up on Bluetooth 5.0 today!

Installation is not complicated. The earpiece detects when you take it out of its box, it turns on right away. We can also use it in a one-sided way, in which case there is nothing in one of our ears. However, if we take the second unit out of the box as well, the two pieces will automatically pair.

Of course, you have to pair it with the phone, but we only have to do it once, later it goes by itself.

The headphones received an AAC and SBC audio codec, which is important for quality. If your phone knows one, it will tell you when you connect the earpiece that the audio device (in this case, the T16) supports one or the other, but if you have a problem with this, you can turn it off in the settings.

If there is no problem with compatibility, don’t turn it off, they really do good for the sound quality!

Experiences

I haven’t written about battery life yet, so let’s start with that. I say in advance that in my experience the factory data is more or less correct, although of course I didn’t make an accurate measurement for a minute.

The point. The manufacturer promises 32 to 24 hours of operation without noise reduction. Of course, this is only the operating time to be understood together with the charging / docking / storage box. This, wherever we look, is brutally long.

If the battery capacity of the dock is taken out of the formula, the situation is not bad either, since in this way we get 8 hours of operation on a single charge without noise reduction with 6 noise reductions.

If the earpiece is discharged but the dock is charged, you can insert the units, but this is already common in this earphone category.

The Haylou T16 is an extremely comfortable wear. It is almost weightless, so its weight is not disturbing. The ergonomics are perfect, it fits securely in your ear, but you don’t want to squeeze it apart. I feel it will also be perfect for sports.

Everything is fine so far, but how is it?

Overall well! The bass is surprisingly strong, the treble is very good too, but the middle is a bit weak. More specifically, this should be understood as weak compared to the bass, because when the bass sounds, they turn off the midrange a bit.

If there is no bass the mid range is also perfect, which is important because this is where the speech sounds.

There was nothing wrong with the voice, the conversations on the phone. Not only did I understand the other party, it meant me, so it’s perfect.

Noise reduction is also good, with reductions of up to 35 decibels as described. There are three modes to choose from, at the slightest reduction we hear essentially everything that is happening around us, only a little dimming of any noise. At the medium, the noises of the environment are still heard, but quite quietly, but at the strongest noise reduction, we can hear almost nothing from the outside.

In the latter case, the earpiece sounds best, but beware, while playing sports, running, or walking down the street, it may not be a good choice. Avoid accident-prone situations instead!

Summary

The Haylou T16 is one of the company’s most expensive ears. I've tried one or two of the cheaper ones, I liked them, so I was hoping that the T16 would be good too. That's it!

I’m not saying it’s flawless, but it’s still well worth the price. The sound quality is almost perfect, the noise cancellation is plentiful, the ergonomics are impeccable. We can't complain about battery life either.
