New CEO at the head of Invitel

Invitel, one of Hungary's leading telecom and infocommunication service providers, has announced that David McGowan will replace Martin Lea as CEO from January 2012, 9, who will also resign from the company's Board of Directors.

Martin Lea has held the position of CEO of Invitel, based in Hungary, since 2004, where he was responsible for managing the significant market consolidation in the telecommunications sector and restructuring the company accordingly. To ensure a smooth and efficient transition, Martin Lea will remain in Hungary in the first quarter of 2012, assisting the company as a consultant.

With the appointment of David McGowan, Invitel intends to further strengthen its position in the domestic retail telecommunications and infocommunications market. Prior to his current appointment as Head of Invitel, David McGowan had a long and very successful career in the European media and telecommunications sector. Since 1999, he has held senior management positions at leading cable providers such as Cablecom in Switzerland or Unity Media in Germany. In addition to his experience in service companies, the new manager also has extensive knowledge of television and content services - before coming to Europe in 1999, he worked as a senior manager in these industries.

Also to strengthen Invitel’s position in the retail market, Stephen Wright, who has extensive experience in cable and wired telecommunications, was appointed Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the retail business at the end of last year. Prior to joining Invitel, Stephen Wright was CEO of the Melita Group in Malta (a 4-play cable company). Prior to that, he worked for 6 years in Switzerland as Vice President of UPC Cablecom and previously as Chief Operating Officer of Sunrise.
