Tronsmart Bang Max - JBL Boombox quality at half price?
Unfortunately, the years have flown by, I'm no longer a big party face, and in terms of music and sound, I'm looking for clean, harmonious rather than loud. Because of this, I probably won't be the target audience for the Tronsmart Bang Max, but I raise my hat to it, even wave it. What they got out of the stuff is inhuman.

I have written everything about Tronsmart in recent years, so I won't bore you with this. The most you should know (for those who don't know) is that they sell high-quality audio products at a very good price, which are more well-known at home, and not very cheap brands. For example, JBL.
You shouldn't expect these gadgets to squeeze the top category, for those with really deep ears, this level is not what they will like. However, they are perfect for everyone else, if only because, as I wrote, they can give you cheap stuff for a fraction of the price of popular brands here.
Tronsmart Bang has become a serious buzzword of the last year, because Max is now the fourth in the family after Bang, Bang SE and Bang Mini.

So, Bang Max, as the name suggests, is the big boy in the family. It's very similar in shape to the little ones - don't change what works! - but for knowledge we get something completely different. This can be said to be due to its size, as the Max has become a well-inflated Bang with its weight of 5,87 kilograms and its length of 47 centimeters. Let's say it's not low for height, 28 centimeters, and its circumference is about 62 centimeters. In other words, we are talking about a really big pipe.
Like the smaller Bangs, the subwoofers are on the two ends, they are passive. Based on the exploded view, I'm sure that the middle and tweeters are active, but in the case of the two middle subwoofers, I can only guess that maybe they are also active speakers, and this is only because the little one is quite loud.
Regarding the double-sided subwoofers, it should be mentioned that, like the other Bangs, there are RGB light rings around the speakers. These are able to flash to the beat of the music in 3 different ways, and there is of course (and fortunately) an off state as well. The latter is useful, because this lighting consumes a lot of electricity, so if you turn it on, the music turns off first.
The position of the buttons has also not changed compared to its predecessors. From left to right, we first find an indicator that shows the charge. Next to it is the on and off button, which can be pressed to switch on the LED lights when it is switched on. The next three buttons also have more abilities. The + and - buttons adjust the volume, but if you hold them down, you can also move the numbers forward or backward. You can start or stop playback with the middle arrow-shaped button.
Then there are buttons that turn on Tronsmart's own technologies. The first is SoundPulse, which makes music that is not dynamic anyway more dynamic. Next up is the TuneConn, which I think sounds better than a lot of people actually use it. Its knowledge is that we can connect up to 100 identical devices through it. Let's say I would listen to 100 pieces of Max screaming at the same time...
The next button is the completely traditional TWS, which means that you can coordinate two MAXs so that they play music in stereo with 260 watts. The last Echo is a more interesting thing, I'll write about it a little later!
The connectors are on the back, at the bottom, under a large rubber cap. This is essential for waterproofing, because the Max is also waterproof, IPX6. We've seen better ones, but a little rain and a gentle stream of water won't hurt it, and that's enough for a boombox, and anyway, who wants to listen to music underwater?
Let's go back to the connectors, because we can find several interesting features of the Tronsmart Bang Max here.
The first is that we don't get USB charging, but an external power supply. The reason for this is that the thing has a huge battery with a capacity of 18 mAh, which would be no fun to charge from a simple USB. In addition, the thing can be used even if it is discharged, but you stick the power supply in your ass. So you need a little more cocoa here than a traditional USB can provide.
What is less exciting is the USB-A port, although there are so many special features here, that due to the built-in huge battery, you can charge e.g. our phone. The Aux-in is not sexy at all, but the two surprisingly large (6,3 mm) jacks are all the more so.
The fact is that we can connect a microphone or a guitar to these jacks. In other words, you can use the Bang Max as a Karaoke speaker, you can use it as a guitar amplifier, or you can even take the hand of your guitar buddy and take him out to Vörösmarty Square. You sing, he plays the guitar and you have the ice cream money.
Here we can turn back to the Echo button on the front panel, which gives the microphone input a little space or echo to make it more understandable.
So, in the case of the Bang Max, the shape and control were given, the placement of the loudspeakers didn't cause much excitement either, the maximum number of the latter changed due to the higher power and size.

As I mentioned above, Boombox is not my world. Unfortunately or not, it would be better to be younger, but since I'm comfortable in my own skin, I still don't want to go back to the partisan era.
However, no matter how much I have grown out of it, I can say that the Tronsmart Bang Max has turned out to be a very good device! It sounds very good, the bass is very dynamic even if the SoundPulse is not turned on, and with that, it's a bit too much of the good stuff for me.
There is the least from the middle, the treble doesn't ring particularly well either, and I definitely don't dare to say that these sounds are very different from each other. What is interesting, however, is that in the case of music based on vocals, the vocals sound very nice and clear. For example, Dire Straits can be quite frank until the stronger drums come, because the bass sits nicely on top of everything and pushes the enjoyment to the core.
In such cases, the Tronsmart application can be used, which you can install on your phone and control the Max via a Bluetooth connection. I would like to note that apart from the equalizer, the app doesn't make much sense, except that you don't have to run to the speaker and, especially in the dark, you don't have to look for the buttons if you control it from your phone.
But back to the sound, the equalizer is a useful thing, because I was able to adjust the sound to my taste quite well!
I would like to note that I really didn't like the pre-programmed sound images, there was too much of everything, they made the music unenjoyable for me. Let's say, if you like rave music, then you will immediately have a different opinion about Max's abilities, because the electronic tuctuc came out of Bang Max with such energy that I threw my hair out.
But seriously, the bass burst out of the box with such an elemental force that I just blinked, so the terrain of the Tronsmart Bang Max became nothing less than rave and techno. It was amazing, really!
All in all, I can say that you don't want to listen to pop on it, it was from rock, which I was able to adjust accordingly. Forget the classics though... Wagner's Die Walkure was quite good. Take the whole good thing to mean that I didn't want to throw it all out the window right away. So it was on the edge of enjoyment.
War Of The Worlds, on the other hand, was a very pleasant surprise. Richard Burton, who came in as the narrator, felt like he was sitting next to me, and the music came through. I note that I did not use the preset sound images here either, but one of my own, but that is incidental. Bang Max knew what it took!

It's that I like it. I say this like this, except for electronic music, I adjusted the tone manually everywhere. But, if I managed to get into it, it suited even my rather squeamish taste.
That said, the Tronsmart Bang Max is still a large boombox, not part of a home HiFi system. It was invented to take to a party and push the music at high volume, and it's excellent for that. No matter how much I turned up the volume, it didn't want to distort for a moment. The sound remained clear in all cases, at most the humming was a bit much, which bothered me a little considering that there were no bears nearby.
But, as I've written and I'll write again, even for the thousandth time, this is a boombox, and it's really perfect for that.
Of course, we must not forget that the Bang Max, even if many people will not use it, is not just a simple party speaker, because it also has a built-in microphone and guitar amplifier, and even an echo to make the sound a little more exciting. So it's also a karaoke machine and a street musician's tool if needed.
Well, in the end, the price. Among the Tronsmarts, it is a bit expensive at HUF 70, but it is ridiculously cheap compared to the purchase price of its direct competitor, the JBL Boombox 2+ or the JBL Boombox 170+ HUF. The fact that we also receive a Tronsmart Trip travel speaker as a gift is just icing on the cake.
Well, from this point of view, the girl is not so bad - or is the guy? – its position! Right?
