The new BlitzWolf headphones promise a lot, but they are suspiciously cheap. Worth the price?

Introductory

I've been using a cheap Alfawise headset for years, which I got from the successful Gearbest store. It was never a crazy good piece, but it was perfect for what I used it for (e.g. cutting the sound of videos).

It was comfortable, the diaphragm was the right size, 4 centimeters, it could be used both wired and in Bluetooth mode, and most importantly, there was no background noise. So it was perfect for removing the hiss from the sound of videos, and also for sometimes listening to music with it, although not nearly in Hi-Fi quality.

In a word, it was perfect, but unfortunately, I stretched the cover on the pillow with a lot of use, the protruding sponge also started to dust, so it was time to look at something new. AirAux ER6 came along just in time, which on paper was just like Alfawise. Or even a little more, but I will write about them below.

So the question I have to answer in this article is whether the dirt cheap AirAux ER6 was worth the price, or would it have been better to look at a more expensive one.

Packaging, accessories and exterior

Well, the packaging was a little wrinkled when it arrived, but luckily there was no harm inside. The box is bigger than the one with the ears, the internal protection was adequate, so everything is ok! In any case, the packaging already shows that these headphones do not enrich the top category, because the box, although it looks good, is made of rather thin material. There is no hinged lid or magnetic lock here, just a cardboard box.

There aren't many accessories, but I didn't expect anything extra for such a product. A USB Type-C cable, a short jack-jack cable and the microphone. Apart from these, we find a short description, nothing else.

The headphones, on the other hand, at least in terms of appearance, more than make up for the few accessories. It just looks damn good. The combination of orange and black colors, the AirAux inscription on both sides, suits him very well, it is sporty, youthful, but still able to remain a bit conservative. I really like the view!

The use of materials is a little less impressive, we get hard, knocking plastics everywhere, there is a true casting error, there are no burrs anywhere, and the assembly is also perfect. The visible surfaces are matte everywhere, and that's very good, I hope it won't become shiny in a short time.

There is no problem with the cushioning. There is also a pillow on the top of the head, and the ones on the speakers are enough, but not too soft. I compared it with the Alfawise headphones, the AirAux ear pads are a little bigger in width and height. I suspect it will fit my ears well.

The length of the strap is of course adjustable, so it can be used from tiny to almost extreme head sizes.

According to the description, the headphones are equipped with RFB lights, which of course is not visible when turned off. When switched on, it really lights up in two rings on the outside of the drive cover. The light is not very strong, it can be seen quite well in the dark, barely in the light. That doesn't affect me, I won't turn it on anyway, but if someone is a gamer, then that can decide whether they like it or not.

The controls are solved with physical buttons, which is less elegant than the touch-sensitive control, but I like it much more. Accidental touch is not a problem with these, to say the least.

The buttons, the jack connector and the microphone connector can be found on the left side. At first, this may seem strange, but when you think about it, it makes sense, because in this way, pressing the headphones, your right hand remains free. Of course, this is not such an advantage for left-handed people. Here, on the left radiator, we also find the SD card slot, although it is not below the buttons, but above, a little tucked away.

Overall, the picture is more positive so far. The padding is fine, the look is fine, the colors and shapes are very good, only the plastic could be a little less hard, and I would give it 10 out of 10!

Paper form

This chapter is for factory data!

AirAux ER6 can work in several modes. We can use it wirelessly, with a Bluetooth connection, we can use it as wired headphones and we can also use it with a memory card, in this case, of course, on a separate playback device, e.g. you will not need a phone.

The built-in Bluetooth adapter is 5.2, which means that it has all the good features of the five series, i.e. low latency and low consumption. The first is because, and it will be interesting if, for example, we play on our phone, and it is important that there is no slippage between the picture and the sound, because in the game this can also lead to our death. According to factory data, this slip is only 50 ms in this case.

The headphones use 40 millimeter diaphragms. For their operation, a battery with a capacity of 400 mA provides energy in Bluetooth, i.e. wireless mode, which is enough for 45 hours of continuous music listening or phone calls. The standby time, which the dog is not interested in anyway, is 400 hours. It takes 2,5 hours to fully charge, of course you can charge the battery with the included cable.

I already wrote about RGB lights above. The manufacturer mentions 7 different colors in the description. The capabilities of the microphone are not mentioned in the factory description. What is certain is that the microphone is connected to the headphones with a jack, so if you need it, you can put it in, if you don't, you can put it in the drawer and it won't disturb you during use.

So far, we can safely say that almost everything is flawless, but the test of the pudig is to eat it, and the test of the headphones is to put them on our heads and try them out.

Experiences

One day it was on my head for 4 hours. Not because it was necessary, just to see how long I could find it comfortable. I took it off after wearing it for four hours because lunch was ready and my children would have been busy with the headphones instead of the lunch if I was sitting at the table wearing them. So I took it off.

I'd say these 4 hours are more than bearable, of course tastes, slaps, head and ear sizes are not the same, so I won't bet my life on it being so good for you. The ear cushions are comfortable, high enough that my ears are not pressed against my skull by the inner lining. It fits my ears, so it's perfect. Probably also the padding of the head, because I didn't notice that it was tight or something...

Of course, I also tried the three available modes.

When using a memory card, the ER6 automatically switches to music listening mode, that is, there is no need to switch anything. You can get used to the position of the buttons, of course you have to learn at the beginning to find what you're looking for, but it doesn't take much time. I had everything for my third appearance.

And how is the sound quality?

Well, it is. It's like cheap earphones. In the description, the bass enhancement is written as the only feature, but I wouldn't call it that good either. It actually works. The AirAux ER6 isn't bad for listening to music, but I wouldn't call it super either. With the basic setting, everything sounds a bit veiled, as if there is a thick blackout curtain between me and the speaker.

It improves things a lot if there is an equalizer in the player program on the phone, which can be used to adjust the strength of low and high sounds separately. You don't have to think about anything crazy serious, Spotify's built-in controller is more than enough. Using this, we can extract quite pleasant sounds from the ER6.

Anyway, I would like to note that, contrary to the general opinion, the ER6 sounds better from a phone via Bluetooth than from a computer via a cable.

Cheap meat with plenty of juice - BlitzWolf AirAux AA-ER6 headphones test 13

Why is this interesting? Because true audiophile users prefer analog solutions, I rightly note. Because with digital formats - at least those that are not lossless - music is made from much less data due to a lot of compression and optimization. In addition, the bandwidth of Bluetooth is not enough to be able to transmit a sufficient amount of data, although this is improving in the case of newer Bluetooth versions such as 5.2.

So to sum things up, cable is better. In general.

However, in the case of AirAux ER6, there is AAC (Advanced Audio Coding), which can improve the quality quite a bit, so if your phone supports it, you should turn it on, because ER6 is able to take advantage of it. Emphasizing the bass tones, especially if e.g. we help you with Spotify's tone control, it's really good. There's plenty of rumble, but little distortion, and that's only when the volume is cranked up.

There is a microphone, but I can't say much about its quality. There is either no noise filtering, or it just didn't occur to me, so I don't recommend making calls on the street, in the wind, or in the subway. Conferencing and calling in a closed place, in an office, is fine, but don't have high expectations.

I'll be honest, I played very little with the headphones. I don't play on the computer anymore, I don't have time for it, so I won't be able to say how well the headset, or rather the microphone, performs in a team game, because the audible sound is fine. It conveys the sounds of the game beautifully, the explosions move the eardrums.

For what I bought it for, i.e. for work, it is just as suitable as the old Alfawise was. So from that point of view, the choice was perfect, and as an added bonus, I got away with it on the cheap!

Summary

I hope you got answers to all the questions above, but a short summary doesn't hurt!

The BlitzWolf AirAux ER6 is not a Hi-Fi headphone, which is reflected in its performance and sound quality. However, the fact that it only costs a little more than HUF 10 improves its position quite a bit, as it is well worth the money.

It is quite versatile, as it can be used for both play and work. Gamers will be delighted by the RGB lights that can be turned on and the emphasis on the bass, those who will work with it will appreciate the slightly conservative, but still youthful appearance with the orange inserts, the removable or, if necessary, plug-in microphone and the comfortable wear.

It is certain that it will be perfect for me, for the purpose I bought it for, so I can retire with peace of mind, but not throw away the old Alfawise. It will still be good as a spare, it goes in the drawer!
