Stylish player from Philips

Philips has expanded its GoGear product line with another successful product: the Spark can be conquered primarily by its size.

Even though the Spark is only 41 millimeters wide and only 15 millimeters thick, Philips engineers have equipped it with a really pleasant set of knowledge. The 1,46-inch display on the front panel is based on OLED technology and has a resolution of 128 × 128 pixels to save energy. In addition to playback information, the panel can only be used to display still images, but it might be unnecessary to expect more from a unit of this size. Available in 2, 4 and 8 GB versions, the device will certainly not compete with its bigger siblings in terms of sound quality, but FullSound technology and equalizer are not expected to lag behind its direct competitors. It is an unfortunate fact, however, that the range of supported formats is very limited: in addition to MP3 and WMA files, the device only handles JPG files, the rapidly spreading Flac, for example, has already been neglected by the developers.

On the other hand, it can be a pleasure that the purchase price of Spark can be said to be really friendly: depending on the storage space, small things tasting 14000, 17500 and 19000 forints, respectively, can easily become bestsellers in the domestic price-sensitive market. Special attention from Philips is that in exchange for some extra charge, all three versions can be purchased with FM radio: in exchange for the extra, you have to leave about 1800 forints more than the cash register.
