Computex: New ATI Theater TV tuner chip announced by AMD

The first ATI Theater HD 750-based TV tuners will be available later this year.

The TV tuner chip, called the ATI Theater HD 750, will actually launch at the end of the year, when the first PCI, PCI Express or USB-connected devices for internal or external use will appear. Tuner cards equipped with the ATI Theater HD 750 will be capable of receiving FM and DVB-T radio programs in addition to ATSC, DVB-T and Clear-QAM digital, as well as PAL, SECAM and NTSC analogue TV broadcasts. Although the chip provides the ability to stream H.264, AVI, MPEG, DivX, WMV, MPEG-4, and more. format, but it puts a strain on the CPU throughout recording, but an ATI Radeon HD 4000 video card can cure this problem.
