Two more multimedia players from LC-Power

At first glance, our second rider, not named too short, is an EH-35MP2 that is obese in all respects. We are not that far from reality with this statement, as it is clearly a more advanced player. In terms of looks, larger boxes and enclosure sizes characterize the protagonist of this site, meaning we’re dealing with the same quality design, and the features listed above stand out here as well. The only small difference is that the dock included with the MPR35-HDMI has four small soles that make our device stand more securely on its feet (this is also needed due to the increase in weight).

However, the point (not even now) lies in the exteriors, the interior covers the real novelties, which of course is also projected on the outside. If we look at the back yoke, it turns out that the designers have certainly taken advantage of the space available in terms of connectors:

There is also a digital section now, which can now be considered a basic expectation. In the spirit of this, we also get an optical digital audio output and an HDMI, which is practically essential in the age of modern televisions. Fortunately, there is also a LAN connector, as the engineers did not forget USB either, and we even get two more "mothers" from them. According to knowledge, the maximum power consumption has also increased, which now amounts to 36 watts.

Looking at the front, the situation has also changed, a much richer offer awaits us. The branding above is familiar, but below are four indicator LEDs: HDD, record, copy, AV output (playback). Below are the navigation buttons (both menu and stop) and a little to the left is the card reader, which handles five formats: CF, MMC, SD (HC), MS and XD. From the above, it turned out that our test subject also has a recording function.

Let's look at the specifications:

  • Model name: LC-PRO-MPR35-HDMI
  • Input: USB 2.0, LAN; composite and stereo audio
  • Outputs: component, composite, stereo audio, optical digital audio output, HDMI and 2 × USB
  • TV standard: PAL / NTSC
  • Supported formats: AVI, XviD, MPEG-1/2/4, VCD (DAT), DVD (VOB, IFO), MP3, WMA, WAV, AC3, ACC, OGG, JPEG (slideshow); inscription: SSA, SMI, SRT
  • Hard disk: 3,5 ″, SATA, FAT32, up to 1 TB
  • Weight: 0,8 kg

With the MPR35-HDMI, we will need a little more time to install our HDD - for two reasons. We need to unscrew the back cover first and only then can we access the drawer. Second, there are no fixed connectors waiting for our hard drive, but a few inches of small cables that we need to skillfully put in place.

Since the knowledge of our larger competitor has also jumped compared to his smaller counterpart, it is no surprise that we can find more (and more serious) parts on the PCB. The brain is hidden under a tiny aluminum rib, which turned out to be very hot-headed during our tests: it started to heat up even after a few minutes of use, which meant we could even burn our fingertips with it if we really wanted to grope. What’s also worth mentioning is the Genesys GL850A chip, which is responsible for USB ports, and it’s okay to know that the Realtek RTS5151 is responsible for handling the memory cards (and for the connoisseurs, we’ll also reveal that Nanya’s memory is on board).

In the case of the MPR35-HDMI, we can finally find a small 3 cm fan, the sound of which is barely filtered out to the outside world, but I am glad that unfortunately it has nothing to do with HDD cooling, and a plastic frame is in direct contact with our storage, ie passive heat dissipation. nor is it really solved - unfortunately, it certainly belongs to the negatives.
