Faulty Sony cameras
Another incident around Sony’s house, this time found serious flaws in eight types of digital cameras.
Sony said these devices did not work properly or at all under certain weather conditions. By this is meant temperature and humidity, of course within reasonable limits.
The case concerned cameras DSC-F88, DSC-M1, DSC-T1, DSC-T11, DSC-T3, DSC-T33, DSC-U40 and DSC-U50 sold between September 2003 and January 2005.

The exact cause of the error was not disclosed by the manufacturer, according to Reuters, "only" about 1 of the more than 4000 million such cameras are in need of free repair.
