Elpida has announced 4GB modules that are already being made at 30nm.

Japanese-based Elpida has officially announced that it has begun shipping samples of the first SO-DIMMs based on the DDR3 standard and using 30nm manufacturing technology. The modules achieve 4 GB capacity with 16 2 Gbit DDR3-SDRAM chips. Compared to the manufacturer's previous generation, produced at 40 nm, the new development consumes 20% less energy under load, while at idle it can save up to 30%, which can be achieved at 1,5 volts. The maximum data throughput is 1.866 Mbit / s.

The new memory modules are primarily intended for notebook, netbook and tablet lines. Mass production will start in the first quarter of 2011.

Related to this is the fact that A-Data has unveiled a new set of memory for gamers on a notebook line. The modules that fit into the SO-DIMM slot have a capacity of 4 GB each, so the Dual-Channel package offers 8 GB of capacity. The operating voltage here is 1,5-1,35 volts instead of 1,4 volts, allowing them to dictate a tempo of 1.600 MHz with 9-9-9-24 timings. The new A-Data modules will be available individually and in pairs (Dual-Channel) at a price unknown at this time.
