Apple TV introduced!

Yesterday’s Apple press conference brought not only the official launch of the iPhone, but also the structure of Apple TV, known so far only as my iTV name.

To avoid misunderstandings, we can tell you at the outset that Apple TV is not a TV receiver. So what good can this Mac mini look like, but a much narrower "box"? In short, it communicates with the Macintosh wirelessly and transmits the signals from it to the television, so the image appears on the TV instead of the monitor.

So let's see what specifications Apple TV has:

  • Intel processor
  • 40 GB hard drive for direct storage of content
  • HDMI output
  • component video input
  • analog audio input
  • 10 / 100BASE-T Ethernet connector
  • 1 USB 2.0 port
  • 802.11n wireless connection
  • built-in IR (infrared) receiver for the included Apple Remote
  • supported video and audio formats: H.264 and MPEG-4, including copy-protected H.264, and AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, AIFF, WAV and Apple Losless
  • supported HDTV resolutions: 1080i 60 / 50Hz, 720p 60 / 50Hz, 576p 50Hz, 480p 60Hz

An important piece of information for those with the latest HDTVs is that the device does not yet support 1080p resolution, and an updated version capable of this could hit store shelves by the end of 2007. Apple TV will start selling in February at a suggested retail price of $ 299, which translates to about 56 forints.
