Surgical waiting lists can be followed online
The national online waiting list registration system is now available, anyone can keep track of when it is taking place and how many are waiting for different surgeries across the country, in each region or in specific institutions.
There are three main menu items on the website. One is Query Time with Case ID, which you can click to find out when it is in the queue by entering the patient's case ID. Click on another link to view the length of the institutions' queues. While in the third menu item the institutional waiting lists can be queried item by item according to the individual benefits. For example, the page shows that the average waiting time for almond surgery is 70 days for each region, there are a total of 1832 queues. More than 25 people are waiting for cataract surgery nationwide, most of them, 7320 in Western Transdanubia, with an average waiting time of 783 days. Most people in this area, 2435, are waiting at the Markusovszky Hospital in Vas County, where it can only take place on April 2016, 18.
9238 people are waiting for hip prosthesis surgery all over the country, the waiting list is also the longest in Western Transdanubia, the average waiting time is 815 days. The last planned date at the Ferenc Csolnoky Hospital in Veszprém County is June 2013, 21, at the Erzsébet Hospital in Sopron in the same area on November 2016, 23.
Zsolt Kiss, head of the strategy department of the National Health Insurance Fund, previously told MTI: one of the most important elements of the new system is that "the patient's choice is the primary one, the patient will be followed by the money". The basic rules for managing the waiting list will not change, but the system will be stricter, said the head of department. He added that several heads of institutions are happy with the new, transparent system, which also excludes the possibility of doctors ranking someone higher on the list not based on purely professional reasons, but possibly for other interests, such as gratuities.
