According to eNET, the masculine internet is over in Hungary

In previous years, the “male dominance” that prevailed in the online world has now almost completely disappeared, and the gender ratio has leveled off. In Hungary, the internet habits of men and women are broadly in line with the average of the European Union member states.

The current material of the eNET - Telekom “Report on the Internet Economy” research series deals with the computer and Internet use habits of men and women.

According to research, the computer became part of men’s lives sooner than women’s. While a third (34%) of men who use the internet regularly have used a computer for more than 15 years, this proportion is 27% for women. Among women, apart from the last few years, computer use has spread steadily, with the rate of growth gradually declining for the other sex.2014 01_07_kep1

In its research among the population over the age of 18 who regularly uses the Internet, eNET examined whether users access certain activities, such as electronic mail, gaming, listening to music, and so on. - whether they use a computer or a mobile phone, or both devices with the same intensity. Neither gender had an activity that would be done exclusively on a mobile phone, the closest to which is the use of a calendar, but both non-mobile phones and computers are used for this purpose. However, most activities are performed by both women and men on a computer, but not exclusively. Thus, computer use is definitely decisive for the activities studied by eNET, regardless of gender, but while men perform 57% of their activities more or only on a computer, this proportion is much higher for women - reaching 71%. So for male internet users, there has been a shift towards more active mobile phone use next to a computer, with women at a slightly more moderate pace, but also moving towards it.

Internet use

Based on research data from NOK 2013 in the third quarter, based on a population of 25, the frequency of gender internet use shows a very similar picture. For both sexes, nearly three-quarters of the population have access to the Internet on a daily basis, and 47% of men and 43% of women say they go online several times a day. 21% of men spend more than 25 hours a week online, the same can be said for 16% of women. Two-thirds of men (66%) and nearly three-quarters (72%) of women use the Internet for up to 20 hours a week.
