ASUS Eee Videophone - Let's Skype Without Limits!
The 1400 mAh battery that comes with the Videophone doesn’t sound bad at first, but we need to consider the power consumption of the device. Unfortunately, we can’t report much good here. When used, our protagonist eats between 25-27 watts - which is not insignificant - and we measured 6 watts when switched off, which value made our eyes slightly widened. It took 1 and three-quarters of an hour (13 W) to fully charge the temporary energy storage, while during use we were able to discharge it in a fraction of the time: we could only chat for 21 minutes 46 seconds with a battery, but we still exceeded the factory value (20 minutes) - colleague he remarked: I must have an energy-saving voice.

Let's sum it up so far! Our test subject is struggling with a lot of childhood diseases, this is not controversial - see previous page (s). However, the fact that apart from the splitting of the displayed 4: 3 video and the lack of initiative of the conference call, which we tried as a guest and even worked with the partners talking at the same time, we can’t find anything objectionable from the point of view that this device was invented for skype only. It virtually completely replaces the PC in this regard.

Unfortunately, however, it no longer fulfills the portability clause so brightly. We dare to state this for several reasons. One is the weight of the device, which is more than a pound and a half. The other is the (relatively) high power consumption, which allows the 1400 mAh battery to last approx. It lasts for 22 minutes during use, which can be said to be very little (this is compounded by the fact that you have to spend almost 100 minutes then). A third thing is connected here, and that is the fixed brightness, ie if we want to walk around with it during a call - I felt a sharp urge to do so - we can get into trouble, because we can't adventure in the menu while talking, so image parameters.

We haven't even tasted the real black soup: the expected gross consumer price of the ASUS Eee Videophone is around 70 forints, which can be said to be high with the greatest benevolence. Don’t get me wrong: for what the designers created, it is (almost) perfectly suited (if we forget portability). It’s also true that the writer of these lines was given self-forgetful fun by Videophone during the tests, which is also a very commendable thing. All we are saying is that a Linux-based operating system could have been used for this amount of money, with the help of which we could put other chat programs to work, use our widgets as picture frames, use the Internet, play music, and so on. With such knowledge, we could already say the price is acceptable.

However, there is another side to the coin: if someone can afford that amount and needs a gadget with similar capabilities, they should “buy” their ASUS Eee Videophone, as there is simply no alternative on the market. If the customer takes advantage of our test subject’s knowledge and hangs out on Skype day and night, they will find a faithful companion in this ASUS product.
