ASUS Eee Videophone - Let's Skype Without Limits!

A Computer Emporium courtesy of a computer wholesaler, we received the ASUS Eee Videophone AiSuite SV1 for testing.

Approximately three years ago, "ViPowER UniSkyper - Chat More at Home" was published. our one-page paper, which is practically considered to be the predecessor of our present article. Even now, we are talking about an add-on that is very closely related to the world of computing, designed to make Skype easier to use - and to take it to a new dimension.

Then we wrote about this software: "Skype is a direct Internet chat program - similar to the perhaps more widely known MSN and already Windows Live Messenger - that offers a lot of communication services, but the main advantage is that it's free - if you already have a subscription to What the program provides us with is primarily telephony, but this feature is closely followed by the possibility of chatting (practically a communication window in which we can send text messages to each other) If we have more bandwidth, we also have the option of video telephony. a webcam - but we can even make conference calls. In fact, (video) telephony would be the point for us now, as our test subject specializes in this. Based on this, we can actually say that our protagonist was created by kneading a webcam, a smaller display, a small speaker and a microphone, and a dedicated minicomputer. The advantage - but also the disadvantage - is that we can use the Eee Videophone practically only for skype. It’s a good thing because it means (in theory) maximum stability and purposeful development, but we can’t use our widgets for anything else.

Slightly tilted

The form that is interesting at first glance is clearly subordinated to use (see later), meaning that ergonomics is actually very good. The metallic gray hard plastic housing has a massive impression and has rounded shapes. The controls of our device - with the exception of the power button, which is on the front instead of the one on the top of the pedestal (small image disturbance) - which cover obvious functions - instead of an explanation, let's look at a photo of them:

In addition to the buttons, virtually everything is in a very prominent place: the webcam at the top, the LCD covering half of the façade at the bottom, the proud brand in the middle, and the speaker at the bottom. The connectors on the back of the stand are: DC power, USB (for service purposes only!), LAN, headphone output and microphone input. Here are:
