Small (U80V), smaller (UX30) and smallest (1101HA)

If not for something, we won’t be short of ASUS net notebooks this year. Now portable machines have arrived from the manufacturer again, plus three! Our next article can be seen as a continuation, an extension of the ASUS product range, because there will be a few familiar things already mentioned, but of course the novelties will not be left out either. The new team is preparing to fight in a 1: 2 lineup, which means we’ll be dealing with a netbook and two notebooks.

ASUS Eee PC 1101HA

Yeah, we've seen that before! - We could say. However, this is only partly the case, and although the look is really very familiar to the product (after all, he’s also a Seashell), there’s a very important change: Bigger. Netbooks have recently undergone significant changes in design and size (this includes all Eee PCs, of course) (unfortunately, this is no longer the case with hardware, maybe ION will change the innervation). Just remember, we started from 7 ″ anno with the tiny machines, which are now slowly reaching 11,6 ″ and rubbing the limit of the subnotics. We may ask whether this is okay, but it is superfluous because we think the answer is clearly yes. Many people say that today's machines are no longer what the Eee PC or netbook was invented for. Well, that may be true, but it can hardly be a problem if the supply is greater. Newer and larger machines can push down the prices of older and smaller pieces, and thanks to the wide selection, everyone can find what they need for themselves.

Although the 11,6 ″ display again increases the size and weight of the product (these are also negatives), it also brings positive consequences. On the one hand, the larger and more detailed (the 1101HA's LED-backlit display is 1366 × 768, HD ready resolution, this detail has so far been limited to much larger sizes), we see more and better, the keyboard size can also increase, making it much easier to use. So he would be the 1101HA Seashell, let's take a closer look!

Compared to the smaller Seashell - 1008HA - its width has been increased by 24 mm while its height has been increased by 18 mm. The thickness limits were changed from 25,9 to 36,5 to 21,8 to 36,2, so the new machine became thinner. Changes have been made to some critical points, such as the connectors hidden behind the cover plate, everything is free again on this machine, making it (if we overdramatize it a little bit) more vulnerable, but available faster.

The outer cover is the same beautiful white plastic, the fingerprints are barely visible in this color. The interior design is also the same as what was seen on the smaller Seashell, which may be noticed by the fact that the plastic frame next to the display collapsed due to the larger size. The layout of the keyboard has changed at some points, and perhaps its size has increased slightly. Even the previous models didn't really have any usability issues, so we can say the same in this case. A change is that the machine’s information LEDs have been moved down from the top to the bottom right corner of the netbook, and if they have any business, they’ll flaunt blue.

The sticker above them reminds us of some of the key parameters, such as screen size and resolution, 170GB data storage (160GB HDD + 10GB Eee Storage), ergonomic keyboard design, N WiFi, and no less than Battery that promises 9,5 hours of operation. The usual Intel Atom logo and Win XP sticker in the left corner. The touchpad and the silver key have not changed, their design and features are the same as the little salt.

Let's take a quick look at the pages of the 1101HA!

It cannot be said that the machine is overcrowded, on the right we find the mains plug, two USBs, the headphone output, the microphone input and the card reader slot, while on the left we find the power connector, the VGA output, an additional USB t, includes a Kensington lock and a pretty ventilation grille.

The battery at the bottom of the netbook needs to be underlined three times. Not (only) because it can supply its owner with energy for a very long time, but because, unlike the fixed, non-removable solution seen at the 1008HA, the battery can be removed here with a light motion. Behind the tiny door below is an eye-catching memory module, the lower segment of the back panel dominated by the ventilation surfaces.

In the subtitle we wrote "one forward, one back". By moving forward, we mean the display, and by moving backward, we mean the hardware. While in the smaller Seashell the Intel Atom N280 performed the central tasks with its 1,66 GHz clock and 667 MHz system bus in the company of the Intel 945GSE chipset, while in the 1101HA the Atom Z530 works with a 1,33 GHz clock, 533 with MHz FSB. Note that at least both types use Hyper-Threading technology. Both machines have 1 GB of 533 MHz DDR2 modules, with the difference that the 1101HA has better latency. Knowing this information, let's look at the results of memory-related operations! As an interesting fact, we also include the data of the 1005DN, so we have the opportunity to compare three Eee PCs.

Adding to the sadness is the addition of the Intel Poulsbo SCH to the Z530, which includes a GMA 500 graphics controller that is still no better than the GMA 950. Here are some measurements with Cinebench R10, Everest, WinRAR and Super PI, also with three participants.

Finally, here are the HDD-related measurements (Everest Read Test Suite):

To test stability and warm-up, we launched the load application of Everest, where the CPU temperature was monitored. At 50 ° C in the unloaded state, the Atom warmed to 67 ° C by the end of the loaded tenth minute, which we think is reassuring and a good result.

We owe you one more important piece of information, and that is the battery life. Although the sticker of the machine states a "standby" of 9,5 hours (this is the value for the smaller, 6-cell, 48 Wh battery), unfortunately we could not investigate this due to the short working hours. However, we looked at what happens when we start a part of the already established Rescue Me series on the Eee PC in the usual DivX quality. Well, the result is worthy of fireworks and firecrackers, because it surpassed the almost unbelievable by a few minutes 6 hours! In light of this, it’s not so hard to imagine that 9,5 hours with netwetting!
