Small (U80V), smaller (UX30) and smallest (1101HA)
Of the three portable machines, the UX30 is the one that won’t be familiar from our previous articles, although - since it’s a U-series notebook - some of the smaller looks won’t be foreign. Due to its size, the notebook is a very special category, as the LCD has a diameter of 13,3 ″. This small and very thin machine forms a kind of bridge between the 11,6 Eee PC and the U80V. It is slightly larger but also much stronger than the former, while smaller and lighter than the latter, but weaker. Of course, the tests won't be missed either, but first let's take a closer look at the machine!
The silver version came to us, and after we were released from captivity, he caught the man even when he was folded. The cover has a very nice, brushed aluminum effect with the usual ASUS logo on it. Once opened, the situation changes a bit, the keyboard and the frame surrounding the display are black, and the touchpad bar - and the pad itself - splendor in the silvery seen before. A few lines up, we’ve indicated that 1-1 things may be familiar, such as the keyboard. Although there is no white backlight this time around, the button shapes and design follow the U50VG and U80V style.
Not like the touchpad, which resembles the solution seen at Seashell because of the same color and roughness as its surroundings. To the right, an informative sticker was affixed next to it, on which we can discover three major curiosities. The first is the CPU used. ASUS opted for the Pentium SU 2700, a single-core model, due to lower power consumption (and thus uptime). Next is the already mentioned panel, which is a 13,3 ″ LED backlit LCD. And the third is that we can't find an optical drive in it, which can be a painful point, but leanness comes at a price. The information LEDs are located in the right corner next to the power button. The bottom of the display frame is decorated with ASUS, and at the top you can see wolf eyes with the webcam.
Let's see what the pages of the UX30 hide!
The better ones don't do much. First of all, we have to say that like the 1008HA Seashell, the connectors were hidden behind plastic covers. Overall beautiful, it is a question of how practical it is for the user. Going back: on this page, behind the door, we find only two pieces of USB and a headphone output.
The left side is already richer, at the top - next to the ventilation grille - are placed the power connectors, which at least were not hidden, freely accessible at any time. Behind the long door under the lattice was hidden a D-Sub VGA output that could be built using a special converter, an HDMI, a LAN adapter and a further USB. The back of the machine is blank, but the card reader is placed forward. The battery is fixed, non-replaceable, built into the bottom of the machine.
We mentioned earlier that the UX30 is a confusing piece of hardware. It is much more powerful than a netbook, but we can't call it a powerhouse.

Everest 5.00.1650 also had trouble recognizing the Pentium (we used the older version to make the measurements comparable to previous results), the point is that the CPU is clocked at 1,3 GHz, its second level cache is 2 MB, its FSB is 800 MHz is made with 45nm manufacturing technology and has a typical power consumption of 10 W. Test programs generally recognize it as a Core 2 Solo. ASUS engineers have chosen the GS45 chipset next to the CPU, which features an Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics controller that is still not up to par with a dedicated solution, but light years better than models performing in Eee PCs. System memory is 2 GB, clocked at 800 MHz, delay values are 6-6-6-18. Of course, we also took the usual measurements on the UX30, but since we couldn’t show a fair opponent against him, he’ll be alone in the table and on the screenshots. In any case, it is interesting to compare him with the measurement results of the netbooks and notebooks discussed in the previous pages.

HDD, Everest Read Test Suite:
We were wondering how single-core, low-consumption Petnium behaves in terms of warming. The unloaded temperature of 48 ° C surprised the U80V a bit compared to 45 ° C, while under load the Pentium only heated up to 62 ° C.
In terms of uptime, we were optimistic about the SU2700, but the 2 hours 32 minutes of continuous movie watching was a bit disappointing. The result is by no means tragic, but we expected a little more, but:
We have received information from the manufacturer that in Hungary the UX30 will be available with much more powerful Core 2700 Duo ULV processors compared to the SU2 CPU. The battery life will be around 4,5 hours (the specimen we visited is an early sample, which may explain the relatively low operating time).
