Google Chrome is also protected by Microsoft
The Redmond giant wants to achieve all this in the form of a browser extension.
According to a study released last year, Microsoft Edge blocks malicious websites with excellent efficiency, better than any of its rivals in this regard. The extension that has just appeared (Windows Defender Browser Protection) to migrate this protection mechanism to Google Chrome. The service can essentially act as another filter, as Chrome already offers such protection by default.
Apparently, Microsoft didn't complicate things too much, we only find one setting in the program: it's for turning it on and off. The plug-in can be used with other Chromium-based solutions, although it is not primarily optimized for these, so various errors may occur here (e.g. the extension icon does not appear on the Vivaldi toolbar, however everything may work in the background).
The question is, why is Microsoft releasing one of Edge’s most serious trump cards? The answer lies in Google Chrome’s vast user base, and the data set from here is likely valuable information to Microsoft.
