Winter is approaching, cold, zimankó. The cold air is also dry, because the steam condenses in the cold. And dry air, among many other things, is not good for our mucous membranes, it dries it out.
This is where viruses come into play. In dry air, the droplets stay in the air for much longer, up to one and a half to two times, and viruses can travel through these droplets, and we inhale them with them. In order for this not to be enough, our mucous membranes also dry out in the dry air, and these vapor droplets adhere more easily to this, along with the surfing virus on their “backs”.
Of course, the dry air, the dehydrating mucous membrane is not very pleasant anyway, it stimulates coughing, and our well-being is not so good in such an environment either. So in winter - but also in an air-conditioned apartment in summer - it is worth paying attention to the humidity in the air in our apartment.
In this article, I’ll show you a tool for this purpose, but not some small desktop structure, but one that can pour steam out of itself on a single charge, even for a day. In addition, of course, there are other useful abilities, but you can read about them in the article.
Packaging, accessories, exterior
It is exceptional to discuss these three topics in one chapter because it is unnecessary to break them down because of their brevity.
The humidifier, due to its shape only, comes in an elongated, simple cardboard. Inside is a description, a remote control and the structure itself. That's it, let's look at the humidifier itself!
A large, standing, white tube is lifted out of the box, which has been given a relatively large black base. It weighs two deca. Well, a little more, but almost weightless with its 1,8 pound empty weight.
At first glance, the materials look good at first glance, although the thickness and hardness of the plastic make it feel that we did not buy a machine that goes into chandeliers. Regardless of that, I dare say the quality is good, and not just in relation to the price, anyway.
Looking at the exterior, we can immediately notice some interesting things. On the front, the upper part of the controls, these are touch-sensitive buttons on a black background or a display. The power cord comes out the back, plus we find the other curiosity, a little white box that I’ll talk about later.
The humidifier is structurally reminiscent of a matryoshka (матрёшка) baby. You know, this is the Russian toy that we disassemble to find smaller and smaller babies.
So, the Blitzwolf BW-SH4 is so little too. Lifting the top grille, we come across a container. Lifting this, another tank is waiting for us, now the second one, with the power cord connected to it. If we lift this, we find the bottom largest tank into which the water is to be filled.
Principle of operation
An ultrasonic humidifier is a so-called cold humidifier, that is, in order for “steam” to enter the air, it must heat up and boil the water. Of course, the steam coming out of the device is not steam, but only very finely atomized water and some air flow.
The principle of operation is simple. The humidifier has a high-frequency vibrating plate, the water coming into it is atomized, which is then delivered to the air space of the apartment with air blown through the device.
Humidifiers operating in this way have both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage clearly stems from the fact that the water does not have to be heated, so on the one hand we save a lot of energy, on the other hand the operation becomes essentially harmless, we cannot burn ourselves and boil ourselves.
The disadvantage of this method is that in places where the tap water is hard it will be worth using distilled water. In the case of traditional tap water, which contains a lot of minerals, these minerals are also released into the air and sit in the form of white powder on furniture and shelves.
So, if the tap water is hard, some softened water will be the solution.
In the case of the BlitzWolf BW-SH4, staying with the principle of operation, it is worth highlighting a few more things!
The first is that, unlike cheaper equipment, it is not gravity but a small pump that delivers water to the tank where the above-mentioned sheet vibrates, producing atomized water. The significance of this is that, in the event of a failure or leak, it is essentially impossible for the water in the humidifier to escape, since it is in the lowest tank.
It wouldn’t even be lucky, as the maximum capacity is 7,5 liters, which would do a pretty nice flood.
The second important thing is that it is no accident that we find so many tanks in the machine. Their role is to return the vapor, which is placed in the wrong place during spraying, to the tank, thus providing another protection against dripping.
The third important thing that the manufacturer has in mind is to keep one of the biggest (if not the only) benefits of boiler humidifiers, sterilization. What does this mean in practice?
It means that in the case of boiler humidifiers, the water filled into the humidifier will be asymptomatic due to the effect of heat, the viruses, pathogens, fungi, spores in it will be destroyed, so anything that can harm us. In the case of ultrasonic humidification or cold humidification, another method must be used to achieve the effect.
For this purpose, the manufacturer has installed a UV LED in the spray tank. UV light kills pathogens and viruses, and also produces minimal amounts of ozone, which further increases efficiency. Thus, the BlitzWolf BW-SH4 achieves almost the same efficiency of sterilization as the boiling humidifiers.
Recently, the news appeared on several Internet portals that the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) for the first time checked the humidifiers available on the market in its accredited laboratory. Of the 20 products tested, only 3 passed the test, two of the three were conventional fan-evaporated and one - like the Blitzwolf - ultrasonic humidifier mentioned in the article.
The reason for the failure of the machines was that mold can quickly multiply in the water filled into them, the spores of which can cause an allergic reaction when inhaled, or in the worst case, suffocation. A single ultrasonic humidifier passed the test, also only because it had an antibacterial property similar to Blitzwolf BW-SH4, which prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi in the water.
By the end of the operation, there’s one more thing I haven’t received confirmation of yet. There is a removable grille on the back of the device, which in my opinion is for fragrance, here you can possibly put essential oil or some kind of fragrance pad. Experiences
Well, where do I start? Maybe there that the BlitzWolf BW-SH4, unlike many of the manufacturer’s products, isn’t smart, meaning it doesn’t have Bluetooth and we can’t control it from our phone. Let's say it would be almost unnecessary, because you know everything without it!
Let's start with capacity. The device is able to spray no less than 280 milliliters of water into the air of our apartment in one hour. As I wrote, the capacity of the tank is 7,5 liters, which, after a small head count, means that when operated at full speed, it sprays the entire contents of the tank into the air in just over 24 hours.
In practice, this means that the structure is effective even for a large air cubic meter!
It is also important that the humidity can be adjusted. This is aided by the small white box next to the power cord already mentioned at the beginning of the article, which houses a humidity and a temperature sensor.
It is good to know that in order to achieve a comfortable feeling, it is worth keeping the humidity in our apartment between 40 and 60 percent. Meanwhile, we can call the air too dry and too wet. The latter is not good either, as excessively humid air affects our relative sensation of heat, and fluid evaporated through our skin does not cool our skin.
But this is just one side of the troubles caused by too humid air. The other is that in such an environment, mold spores, bacteria, but even mites, feel much better, and these can cause allergic reactions or even more serious illnesses.
So it’s good to be able to control the amount of humidity and with the BlitzWolf BW-SH4!
The operation of the machine, essentially only due to the principle of operation, takes place essentially without sound. Due to the high pipe shape, the "steam" escaping from the machine rises to a high height. At the highest grade, I could see even circulating steam at eye level, and I am 184 inches. So you don’t have to worry about the floor around the machine getting soaked and there’s no moisture left in the air.
As I mentioned with the accessories, we also get a remote control. True, it's a pretty simple piece, but I'm saying a more complicated structure won't be needed. On the one hand, we can set everything on the machine, on the other hand, I found that on the second day I didn't even care about the whole thing, because the set humidity was kept by the machine, ie if it had to be switched on, if it had to be stopped.
Why have a say in this? Well, right!
If you’ve had experience, it’s worth noting that the humidity meter behind the machine has always shown higher humidity than my Xiaomi sensor in the middle of the living room. This is understandable somewhere, as it is expected that the humidity around the humidifier will always be higher.
In the setting, calculate with this and choose a value that will increase the humidity in the far corner of the room, but do not drown in the tropical climate around the machine!
I can’t say anything else about the structure, since beyond that. To set it up you have nothing else to do but just let it do its thing! Or even if it indicates that the water has run out, it needs to be refilled, unfortunately the automatic refill has not been invented yet.
Conclusion
Let's highlight the most important things!
Cheap, high capacity, able to operate automatically, it includes sterilization, virus control with UV lamp, we get a remote control and it works silently. These are the essential things, of course, that they don’t even look bad!
If you live in a place where, for example, there is district heating, don't let God live in a panel, then for the winter it is definitely worth considering purchasing a humidifier, which can even be a Blitzwolf machine. The same is true for you even if you use air conditioning, but in this case, it’s worth thinking about humidification in the summer as well, because much of the air conditioners aren’t prepared to make up for the steam that condenses from the air.
