Windows 8 tablets on Emirates Airline

After American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines, Emirates Airline also plans to use a tablet instead of heavy manuals for pilots and flight attendants. However, while the top three companies voted for the iPad, the latter opted for a machine shipped with Windows.

The airline has been told that they need a device that is lightweight and that can work without the need for long-haul flights. This is especially important for the carrier, as they operate the four longest non-stop passenger flights in the world. Considering the above considerations, their choice fell on the HP ElitePad 900 running Windows 8 Enterprise.

The devices will be equipped with a program called Knowledge Driven Inflight Service (KIS), which will help flight attendants to better meet the needs of passengers on an airline offering exceptionally high levels of service. With the help of KIS, passengers will be able to receive personalized services, for which all information will be available to flight attendants. If the passenger has previously traveled on one of the company’s planes, they may know what wines and food they prefer, as well as where they like to sit on the plane. Emirates Airline will release a total of 1000 tablets to its employees.
