Hungary's largest server migration is over

Hungary's largest server migration is overDuring the project, which lasted for almost a year and a half, 1300 machines were transferred from Magyar Telekom's Petőfi Sándor Street site to the Dataplex center. The provider-owned Dataplex is the largest data center in the region, with 14400 square feet of servers stored in the most secure conditions.

The servers of the Data Park in the heart of the city center have been moved to the Dataplex center in the last year and a half, after the Petőfi Sándor street site has become too scarce. The doors of the 2001th district machine room operated by Magyar Telekom were opened in 2011, and the transfer of devices capable of storing a total of hundreds of terrabytes of data began in July 1300 to the Dataplex center under the safest possible conditions. More than XNUMX servers were moved during the police escort process.

The new location is the largest data center in Central and Eastern Europe; state-of-the-art techniques were used in the construction of the nearly one-and-a-half-hectare facility. The Dataplex is characterized by the so-called N + 1 philosophy, according to which, in addition to the required (N) system, a reserve is always available, ie the object is prepared for all possible scenarios. The extreme safety is well demonstrated by the fact that arriving cars can only enter the car park guarded by electric tank traps after a chassis inspection. Of course, the fences are also designed so that no truck can break through them.

In addition to detecting unauthorized intruders, the secure operation of the servers stored here is also a key consideration. Precision air conditioners ensure a constant balance of air temperature and humidity, and in the event of a fire, the most advanced gas-based technology, which is not dangerous to humans or machines, can stop the spread of flames in less than 1 minute. In addition, in the event of a power failure, a generator system maintained under continuously preheated conditions provides electricity that could meet the needs of a city the size of Székesfehérvár for 3 days.

After the project is completed, more than 25000 servers will operate in the Dataplex, which will also host Telekom's hosting service. In addition to the secure storage of data for small and large companies at the new site, 0-24 hours of administrator supervision guarantees smooth operation. 40-50 percent of the machines now moved are operated by SMEs, while 50-60 percent are operated by large companies.
