US DOT: you don't need Vista!

The U.S. Department of Transportation does not request the latest Microsoft software.

While the average user is very interested in Windows Vista, Office 2007 and Internet Explorer 7, there are several organizations that are postponing or refusing to buy new Microsoft software for the time being.

The U.S. Department of Transportation falls into the second category: about 15 computers currently run Windows XP Professional and use special software that would struggle with compatibility issues under Vista.

Nevertheless, it is possible that they will test Microsoft’s latest operating system and office suite for testing later, but one ministry chief said they are more likely to migrate from XP to Mac OS X or SUSE Linux.
