Glassless 3D display for mobile phones from LG

LG Electronics will unveil its 4,3-inch glasses-free 3D display designed for mobile devices at CES.

The 480 × 800 pixel, WVGA 4,3-inch 3D display provides the optimal size for displaying 3D movies and content on a mobile phone. The 3D display, which can be viewed without glasses, uses parallax barrier technology, which provides light-blocking slots attached to the front of the LCD panel. Gaps - also known as railings - ensure that the viewer’s left and right eyes see a different image, creating a sense of depth and 3D spatial effect.

LG, in close cooperation with LG Display, has significantly reduced the so-called ghosting phenomenon. The new display has straighter and more vertical railings that fit the LCD panel extremely precisely. This technological advancement not only means smoother, brighter and flicker-free images, but also offers a wider viewing angle compared to previous parallax displays.

“LG sees huge growth potential in the 3D mobile phone display market,” said Dr. Jong-Seok Park, President and CEO of LG’s Mobile Communications Division.
