Symantec provides a new layer of security for the cloud

The company has made Symantec O₃ Cloud Identity and Access Control available.

As Symantec’s information security platform, O₃ provides three layers of protection to the cloud: access control, information protection, and information management. The newly available O₃ Cloud Identity and Access Control provides companies with a single, secure access point for cloud applications and services. In addition, with the introduction of the Symantec O₃ for Salesforce authentication application, Symantec announced its partnership with Salesforce. The new application is a strong authentication application for single-password login and access management, built on Force.com, the socialforce platform for salesforce.com.

The solution provides a single password login system (SSO) through all web applications, including those that do not support federation protocols. This leverages companies ’existing identity infrastructure for authentication, while enabling context-based authorization, password management, and federation services. Symantec O₃ Cloud Identity and Access Control is pre-built into the Symantec Validation and ID Protection Service (VIP), which allows companies to leverage existing VPN authentication to strengthen access to cloud applications.

In the next phase, the company will implement information protection in the cloud based on Symantec’s leading DLP and PGP encryption technologies to automatically detect, block, and encrypt confidential information before it is stored or shared in the cloud.
