Socket AM2 vs. 939 - Performance

Many are curious about the question that arises in the title. Curiosity has also plagued the side of AnandTech’s editors, so they quickly tracked down how much, if any, performance is accelerating at all.

The article tested how much the speed of a computer accelerates with AMD processors with the same clock but different sockets. New processors may end up in the hands of end users sooner, because brought it forward by AMD the date of debut of the socket. The test machine is an Asus A2N8-SLI Deluxe with an AM32 socket, an Athlon 64 X2 and an FX-60 processor, as well as 2 GB of OCZ and also 2 GB of Crucial memory. The version of the operating system was Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 on a SATA2 200GB Hitachi hard drive. Let’s not forget the video card, not the GeForce 7800 GTX either.

Interesting results have been obtained, as the table below faithfully shows.

Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like DDR400 isn't the same as a speed boost in most games, but of course there are exceptions (Call of Duty 2). This is likely due to worse latency, as it is well known that AMD processors benefit more from lower timings than from higher memory speeds. However, this situation changes to 2 MHz DDR800, with a 2-1% performance increase.

There are other tests on the source link, such as timing.
