SMS bomb to China

They are investigating a spammer who scattered nearly half of Chinese mobile users with unsolicited SMS ads.

More than 200 million mobile phone users belonging to the networks of China Mobile and its smaller rival, China Unicom, received unsolicited advertising SMS. Chinese authorities have gone after the spammers, saying they "must pay for what they did". China Mobile has previously apologized for a security hole in its system that allowed spam to spread. However, it has promised to block text messages from the seven online advertising companies from which the spam bomb originated.

The massive SMS spam case came to light when China Central Television addressed it on World Consumer Rights Day, March 15th. Both mobile operators were forced to set up a separate hotline solely to deal with complaints related to the case.
