AMD begins selling Radeon-branded DDR3 modules
AMD, known for its x86 chipset, wants to expand its business as it appears to be trying to gain a foothold in a new market that is nothing more than the memory market.
With the first sword strike, the Reds will focus on traditional-sized (DIMM) DDR3 memory modules, and it’s perhaps no surprise that the products will be Radeon-branded on store shelves. The move is logical, as Radeon is a well-established brand, a huge percentage of customers have probably heard of it, so not only someone who is knowledgeable (and thinks he has a quality package) will ask for the Radeon DDR3 package you have no idea what kind of DDR3 you want, but when you hear the familiar ringing name you will ask the seller for that.
Although memory production is not the biggest business in IT these days, good "pocket money" can trickle into AMD's coffers by producing adequate sales. It should also not be forgotten that this way the company can now offer an almost complete platform: AMD CPU, AMD VGA, AMD RAM, only the factory motherboard and SSD are missing. According to information on the AMD website the reds are made with three types of modules. They have a standard capacity of 2 GB and each is DIMM standard. The cheapest piece on the Radeon line is the ‘Entertainment’ edition, which ticks 1333 MHz with 9-9-9 timings. The 'Ultra Pro Gaming' DIMM operates at 1600 MHz and has 11-11-11 delay values. The last and probably the fastest, the specifications of the 'Enterprise' product are not yet known.
The package, based on the DDR3-1333 module, has already appeared in the offerings of some Japanese stores, where it is wasted at a price of around $ 20 (presumably the price of one module). The purchase amount of Radeon Ultra Pro Gaming memory is not yet known, nor, of course, in the absence of specification, for that of Enterprise Radeon RAMs.
