What does a 3,1 million computer know?

The German ComputerBase now delighted its fans - including us - with a really special test. The well - known portal has recently received Mifcom 's roughest composition, the miniBOSS Core i9-7980XE Titan V PC. The “feasibility study” rather than a realistic purchase option has been amazing without exaggeration:

  • Core i9-7980XE, 18 × 2,6GHz
  • ASRock X299E-ITX / AC
  • NVIDIA TITAN V 12 GB
  • 64 GB DDR4-2800, G.Skill
  • 512 GB Samsung 970 Pro
  • 6 TB Seagate IronWolf

You see, the stuff uses the best of practically everything. That in itself would be quite eye-catching, even though the good is yet to come! Mifcom has squeezed this whole package into the Fractal Design Define Nano S nook, which due to its size accepts Mini-ITX boards - so the machine is not only stubbornly strong, but also surprisingly small. Luckily, ASRock was also a partner in this “experiment,” as the X299E-ITX / AC is the only motherboard of this size on the market.

Designing proper cooling was certainly a major puzzle for the system integrator due to space constraints. Although the custom-designed water cooler is quiet (usually), it is noticeably “struggling” with temperature control under heavy load. What can we say about PC performance? I think it will be very surprising that it splits very nicely: in 4K it is capable of 60 FPS even in worse moments, but even at 5120 × 2880 pixels it is far enough away from unpleasant stuttering!
