The AMD PIC is discontinued!

AMD discontinued the Personal Internet Communicator (PIC) project due to low interest and financial reasons.

Introduced in 2004, The unit, which could be purchased for $ 185, did not bring the long-awaited success and produced only a loss instead of a profit. The process manufacturer, in principle, created the PIC with a noble purpose: it was planned that with the help of such a cheap structure, the Internet could reach more and less affluent households. Interest was still lacking, so AMD decided to stop the project.

The computer, which weighs 1,36 kilograms, has an AMD Geode GX processor, a hard drive capacity of 10 GB, a 56k modem, 4 USB ports, an integrated voice controller and a VGA output.

Windows CE 5.0 included the following preinstalled programs: Internet Explorer 6.0, Macromedia Flash Player, PowerPoint Viewer, Windows Messenger, spreadsheet, image viewer, and ZIP compressor.
