A microcode-level fix for the Specter vulnerability has been completed so that the BIOS can be updated again.

Intel is trying again

The processor giant has handled the sixth (Skylake), seventh (Kaby Lake) and eighth generation (Coffee Lake) Core CPUs, with older products the patch is still in beta, but at least they are already working on it. Of course, the update doesn’t come directly from Intel right now either, so the role of OEMs isn’t negligible this time either. For a board with Haswell support, Gigabyte may not make the repair available, while on a Dell laptop with similar capabilities, we can seamlessly disrupt the procedure.

Intel stressed that the new microcode has undergone very comprehensive testing - hopefully we will no longer encounter instability here as in the previous version.
