Many Maxtor owners have probably had their ears hurt by the rumbling noise coming from the machine's stomach. All this results from the head movement (seeking) of the drive unit. A small utility program that was developed for Hitachi hard drives, but works perfectly with other types as well, provides a solution for this. Its use does not require great expertise either, simply download the program and then burn the downloaded image file with any CD-burning program. Start the machine from CD, then after pressing the ALT+F key combination, you can adjust the noise level of the hard drive under the "acoustic management" command.
