The number of digital television subscriptions in Hungary also increased in May

The number of digital television subscribers in the network of the largest Hungarian broadcasters increased to 1,739 million, according to the latest television quick report of the National Media and Communications Authority.

Approximately 4 million Hungarian households use more than 3,2 million subscription television services. The remaining nearly 800 households watch free-to-air analogue and digital terrestrial broadcasts or free-to-air satellite broadcasts with a roof or room antenna.

The service providers included in the quick report (Magyar Telekom Plc., Invitel Zrt., UPC Magyarország Kft., DIGI Kft., PR-TELEKOM Zrt., Tarr Kft., ViDaNet Zrt., PARISAT Kft., Hello HD Kft .; UPC DTH S. ŕ.rl, Antenna Hungária Zrt.), 2,838 million subscriptions were registered at the end of May.

In May, 61,3 percent of subscribers to service providers included in the quick report used digital services, up from 60,4 percent a month earlier.

Within digital subscriptions, the number of subscribers to cable television or IPTV increased from 737 in May to 748. The satellite service was used by 927 people, and the MinDig TV Extra service had nearly 63 subscribers at the end of the month.

In the month under review, the proportion of digital cable TV or IPTV subscribers increased from 25,8 percent to 26,4 percent, according to data from the service providers included in the quick report. The share of wireless subscriptions stood at 34,9 percent in May, after a small increase. The proportion of subscribers to analogue cable television services is steadily declining, from 39,6 per cent a month earlier to 38,7 per cent.

For the total estimated market and taking into account all technologies, UPC is the market leader with a market share of 27 percent, DIGI with a market share of 23,3 percent and Magyar Telekom with a market share of 23,0 percent in the month under review. volt.

The flash report covers nearly 83 percent of all subscriptions in the analog and digital fixed line markets - cable television and IPTV. The number of fixed line subscriptions of the reported service providers was 1,848 million in May, of which the number of analogue subscriptions decreased from 1,128 million to 1,100 million compared to the previous month.

In the case of fixed line services, the market-leading UPC has a share of 28,7 percent, Magyar Telekom is in second place with 20,3 percent, followed by the combined share of hundreds of smaller service providers not included in the quick report with 16,7 percent, and DIGI By 16,4 percent.

Wireless services are fully covered by the quick report. In this segment, the market leader DIGI has a share of 38,9 percent, followed by Magyar Telekom with 28,9 percent, the third place belongs to UPC and its share is 23 percent.
