Tried it: Silicon Power Sky Share - a wireless storage

We have come to the part of our article called the manufacturer Sky Share. Not in vain, as it is a storage that we can access wirelessly. That?

The solution is extremely simple, and does not require any special settings, even fewer computer routines. The first step is to power the device to operate or charge the built-in battery. Then or in the meantime, you need to connect it to your computer via USB 3.0 to upload the data you want to carry. When we're done with that, unplug the USB cable, the device switches to WiFi mode, and when the LED turns blue, it already acts as a mini hotspot.

Now we are really close to getting started! To access the data stored on the drive we can choose two solutions, well I suggest we use both options. First, when managing WiFi networks, we need to select a network called SkyShare and connect to it. Then the choice may come. One solution is to select SkyShare from the Google Play Store or the Apple Store, install it, and then access the contents of the drive. This program provides us with a fairly likable and easy-to-use interface, however, it has one major drawback, and that is the scarcity of support for file formats. Fortunately, there is a solution for this as well. The second solution that allows you to play DivX movies, for example, is to access the drive from a browser. It’s not hard either, I tried it on Android with the factory browser. Enter 192.168.49.73 in the address bar so that you can view the stored data through a browser. In this way, we now have the ability to view material with a file format that is not supported by the factory app using an external video player installed on the phone.

Speaking of data access through a browser, it’s important to mention that it’s not just a smartphone or tablet, but any other mobile device, such as a notebook. True, if you work with it, even a USB cable may come into play, but it’s not as convenient as accessing data over the radio.
Fortunately, as it fits such a top gadget, we won’t have a problem with hosting. Silicon Power offers the device in two capacities, available in 500 GB and 1 TB versions.

If we already had Sky Share, we tested it. One of the data we were interested in is how far the built-in radio makes the drive available. Starting a 720p movie, playback worked for 10 meters without interruption, but so that the drive was in the room and I was in the yard on the other side of a window. The other data was a test of the drive battery. In this case, too, the former 720 film was used. In this case, we measured almost four hours. According to the factory data, we can expect a playback time of more than 5 hours, but this seems a bit excessive.

Speaking of radio, it’s important to point out that it supports the n standard, which I also suspected, as otherwise the 720 content would have been quite stuttering.
As it is a portable device the size and weight is not incidental. Thanks to the built-in 2,5-inch drive, the box also fits in an average pocket and weighs 255 grams which is also not much to say.
