I love to entertain my readers with my stories, so I still do. True, I don’t want to tell a specific story, I’ll just summarize my few years of service experience in a few sentences about the field of data backup.

Anyone who works in a computer service knows - who doesn't know now - that data backup and data recovery are a big part of their service work. A lot of data has been lost due to the fact that a user unfamiliar with computer technology, or simply a lazy user, refused to deal with the fact that what can get worse will sooner or later get worse. Hard disks, on the other hand, tend to try to fall into this group, especially when they have a lot of important data on them. Of course, everyone's own data is important, as a collection of e-mail addresses that has been growing for several years, pictures and videos of the family taken in the last ten years, a lot of documents are an irreparable loss.

Still, a lot of people forget about data backup. If I had to make a hardware analogy, I could mention the computer’s power supply, which is an important thing, yet, a lot of people spend money on a new video card sooner than on a reliable power supply. Data backup is like that, as most people only fall for it if they haven’t dealt with it when it’s too late. I met a lot of customers who almost cried begging us to somehow back up their data, the data of your company, from the fried hard drive, and we hunted for weeks for working electronics to fix it. Mentioning the companies, I was reminded of a study that looked at how the loss of company data affects operations and found that it is not uncommon for companies where the entire data set has been destroyed to fail in the short term.

So data backup is an important thing. For a very long time, however, there was no tool that would have been able to automatically archive in a small office or home environment. For years, we couldn’t recommend anything better than having to occasionally write more important data to a CD. Of course, laziness, or so to speak, lack of time enters the picture here. Somehow there is always no time to save data, the more important there is. Then, as the years went by, the data to be backed up became more and more voluminous, so that only DVD burning could be considered, and later it was not. That's when the time came for external hard drives. Yes, but saving the data was not a smooth thing with these either, as most of the time the materials intended for archiving were copied manually, so on the one hand it took a long time, on the other hand it could sometimes be omitted.

Luckily, however, those times are over, too, with the arrival of the Seagate Replica, which, as its name suggests, is designed for just that purpose, that is, to keep our data secure without us having to deal with it.
