Tried it: Energy Sistem book readers - the end days of printed books?

The idea of e-books cannot be said to be too fresh. The first computer-readable books appeared in the early XNUMXs as part of the Gutenberg Project.

Of course, the appearance of the machines intended for the first book reader dates back to this time. In this regard, it is worth mentioning Alan Curtis Kay’s concept of Dynabook. At the time of the publication of the first e-books, the extremely talented gentleman laid down his ideas about what a book reader should look like. Proof of his insight is that even today’s book readers and tablets are almost invariably based on the concept he developed. At the time, of course, the necessary technology was not ready, but that didn’t stop him from dreaming of the perfect reader.

Just to feel the weight of this, think back to what screens and computers you envisioned in a fantastic film shot in the sixties and seventies. In comparison, Alan C. Kay essentially invented the flat-panel tablet with a physical keyboard. Add to this the fact that the concept dates back to 1968! I wanted to put some pictures in here, but luckily I came across a recording on Youtube where Alan C. Kay himself introduces Dynabook!

Nowadays, of course, book readers have undergone tremendous development, and we can safely say that we have still only taken the initial steps, as we already envision the book readers of the future quite differently. Instead of the current rigid boards, we dream of something much thinner and more flexible. However, the future has not yet come, so we will rather present the possibilities of today!

The time has just come for this, as the price of book readers is starting to slide into the truly affordable, while the price of printed books is slipping into the unaffordable region. In addition, more and more books are available from legal sources, not to mention the illegal ones. However, the advantage of e-books is not just in the price. You can upload up to thousands of volumes to a book reader. A library of this size would not fit in an average apartment, let alone how much paper to use.

The question is whether an electronic reader can trigger a paper-based book, whether the reading experience will be retained. In the following pages, we will try to find an answer to this as well, but first we will discuss a bit about the technologies used.
