Cost-effective hard drive coolers from Primecooler

Today’s high-performance computer parts require constant cooling. This is not the case with hard drives either, yet most do not attach much importance to it.

The hard drive is under almost constant usage, which heats up quite heavily under load. Cooling not only extends the life of your HDD, it also ensures even read and write speeds. This way, your hard drive will not slow down even with a large amount of data transfer.

Known for its cheap and low-end products, Primecooler also sells a number of hard drive coolers. Of these, let’s take a brief look at their PC-HDB and PC-HDB2 devices. It is important to know that we can even use them separately, but they are only really effective together. Their installation does not require special expertise.

PRIMCOOLER PC-HDB: It is a passive hard disk cooler with a simple design that can be inserted into a 5,25 \\ ”\\” socket, which is not the most aesthetically pleasing, so it is primarily ideal for enclosed computer cases. Its black heat sink is made of aluminum, which is completely natural in this price range. Dimensions: 144 × 172 mm. Fixing the hard drive is a bit tedious, but with a few minutes of fluffing, this problem can also be solved. A small, but all the more annoying, inattention on the part of the manufacturer is that the purple-black box does not contain the screws needed for installation.

PRIME COOLER PC-HDB2: Active hard drive cooling, which must also be installed in the 5,25-inch socket. It is available in several colors: black, white, silver or even blue. An additional consideration when buying is whether you want to buy it in a sliding or ball bearing package. The latter version is slightly more expensive, but we can expect a longer lifespan in return. The two 40 mm diameter fans rotate at 4500 rpm.

When using the two devices together, care must be taken to keep the passive hard drive cooling as far back as possible so that there is enough space for the fans as well. Using PC-HDB alone slows down the warm-up of the hard disk, so it can withstand the load. The heat sink and the two fans together keep the hard drive temperature low, up to ten degrees Celsius lower, ensuring even hard drive performance. The main downside of the PC-HDB2 is its loudness and expected short life.

The PC-HDB heat sink is available for approximately 1600, while the PC-HDB2 active hard drive cooling is available for around HUF 1200.
