New top processor from Intel
The success of the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors doesn’t make Intel loose either: it makes AMD’s life bitter with new models, continuous improvement, and of course price reductions.
The clock speed of the new high-end processor that will inherit the Kentsfield core Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 is not yet known, but based on the predecessor model, we can expect a value above 3 GHz. For the Yorkfield core CPU, which has a bandwidth of 45 nm, the FSB will of course be 1333 MHz, while the size of the second level cache has been increased to 2 × 6 MB.
The cost-effective Core 2 Duo E4000 series will add another member in the final quarter: the E4600 boasts a 2,4 GHz clock, 2 MB of L2 cache and an 800 MHz FSB. The starting price of the processor will be $ 133 for a high volume order.
Processor | Number of seeds | Clock | FSB | L2 cache |
E4600 | 2 | 2,4 GHz | 800 MHz | 2 MB |
E4500 | 2 | 2,2 GHz | 800 MHz | 2 MB |
E4400 | 2 | 2,0 GHz | 800 MHz | 2 MB |
E4300 | 2 | 1,8 GHz | 800 MHz | 2 MB |
