Intel: Core major continues

The names of the new CPUs have become official.

Intel has confirmed that the name Core will continue to play a crucial role for them, and they will try to make this term more widely known among users. Of course, the names Celeron, Pentium and Atom will remain in parallel, and we can even expect processors divided into these families in the future. The names Core 2 Duo and Quad will also be finally forgotten along with the extinction of the LGA775.

It’s no secret to anyone that the Core i7 family is top notch, but for the first time, Intel has officially confirmed that the new (near) future CPUs will be members of the Core i5 and i3 families, respectively - depending on the mid-range. - or be placed in a lower category.

However, so that our lives are not so simple, it will be likely that specimens with the same seed will belong to different families. For example: the "more muscular" Lynnfields with four cores will be named Core i7, while the individuals with a Lynnfield core, without HT, with a lower clock speed will be members of the Core i5 family - and of course this fact also means different casings.
